Yes, yes I know there is alot of other Resurgence Thrash bands, but please don't rush yourself in to tell me ''Hey dude why didn't you put this band''. I mean the answer is obvious, because I have 9 options in a poll and instead I decided to put Other as an option so you can specify without being Anal about it. I put the bands that I believe to be the most popular in the resurgence. Lol Now tell me what band you prefer, and why.

To me, its a really hard decision. I'm torn between Havok, Municipal Waste and Skeletonwitch... but at the same time all the other released great thrash albums. I think my vote will go to Skeletonwitch, for consistency, originality and live performance. I still have to see Municipal Waste though, alot of people told me their live performance is insane.

What is resurgence

It's like a revivalism - new bands playing an old sound. These are basically all bands that try to recreate what the big four were doing in the '80s.

As for my vote... probably Skeletonwitch, since the others all sound like watered down versions of what's already been done before. Vektor are alright if you're into some more technical stuff, but again - they just lack the same kind of aggression that a lot of the thrash originators possessed.

... Troy, its not watered down, its just thrash metal.. like it was before and like it always will be, don't be so angry it doesn't suit. You just know that Havok, Warbringer, Municipal Waste, Toxic and Lazarus are great, you're a tad too proud to admit it thats all lol

You may think the revivalist bands sound the same, but I can pick out a clear and distinct difference between the modern wave and the originators. Namely in atmosphere, in the sense that bands like Slayer and Metallica had a far more serious approach to their style. Bands like Warbringer, Havok, and Evile all sound more like heavy/thrash or power/thrash hybrids as opposed to the more aggressive straightforward style of 80's thrash.

And I guess that is really band yes... oh of course, I mean having some heavy or power influence added to Thrash.. .gosh should've known it was
not a good thing Troy seriously, what does that change ? Its still thrash and its good.

It doesn't necessarily change anything, aside from the original sound of course, which in my opinion is far superior. It's just a matter of opinion at the end of the day... I prefer the early works of the big four and other thrash outfits of that era (especially the Teutonic scene) - mostly due to the less [other genre-] influenced sound.

Example, I'll take Kill 'em All over any contemporary thrash release, even from the likes of some of my favorite thrash bands like Sodom, Kreator, and Overkill. Although even the veteran thrashers seem to remember their more primal roots.

I really like Warbringer and the vocal performance on Waking Into Nightmares has to be one of the best. But Beyond the Permafrost is one of the best blackened thrash albums ever, really just a masterpiece. It's hard to choose. Although, Skeletonwitch has never really come off as a "resurgence" or "revivalist" thrash band - not that the tag implies anything good or bad.

I think I'm going with Warbringer because studio album quality wise, Skeletonwitch seems to be on the decline.

I'm going with Toxic Holocaust on this one. Skeletonwitch and Vektor are tied to a close second.

Wouldn't it be "atleast" decent if it's the other way around?

TH is more of a darkened Thrash Metal than of 80's Thrash scene. While, Skeleton and Vektor rather fits better in a frame of 80's Thrash resurgence somehow.

Agreed. I would also add the production often comes into play - either lending to the atmosphere or dragging down the experience of the originators. Newer bands often benefit from better production and technology with polishes some turds. The originator's music is commonly so strong it can often withstand sub-par production. I'm not sure some of the newer bands could prevail over the same production qualities often found with originators. Slayer's Hell Awaits and Destruction's Infernal Overkill come immediately to mind. Both have fairly poor production but are fantastic albums with great atmosphere.

I disagree, Skeletonwitch is probably the least 80's-ish of all the bands in this poll. Most of the others are bringing back Big 4 sound or crossover type sound with Municipal Waste and Toxic Holocaust. But Skeletonwitch has strong black elements which make it less resurgence-y.

Voted for Warbringer, though I love Havok, Vektor, Skeletonwitch a lot as well.

I would have to say Municipal Waste. They put on a hell of a show. Although i dont really like that they dont use guitar solos. Warbringer would be my second choice.

I had to go with Vektor, seeing as their 2011 album was album of the year for me, blowing away many other excellent albums, although I do like all of these bands, especially Warbringer. Gotta give credit to Vektor though for actually being original, even if the other guys do a great job of rehashing older bands.
Also gonna post this new thrash band that I always overlooked for some reason, decided to re-listen to about 5 minutes ago, and is kicking my ass.

Has some of those Artillery style middle eastern sounding leads. And, like Artillery, they're Danish.

Voted for Havok, cause those guys rip through songs like a hellhound unleashed. @ Void Eater I heard Lost in Violence a few months ago, and yeah, totally agreed. They kick-ass on that record, definetly a band to watch

To be fair, Warbringer's first two albums took the caustic/really aggressive approach applied by acts such as Demolition Hammer and gave it a much chirpier tempo.

It's a style that I've never heard often in thrash (especially their more technically refined ''Waking Into Nightmares''; still my favourite 'revivalist' album) although that's only my perspective-it could easily sound like any other thrash band for other people. Call them bad if you want, but seeing that I haven't seen many other thrash bands try to be as 'intense' I wouldn't label them as watered down.
