Carcass - Jeff Walker Confirms New Album

Carcass bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker has confirmed to Decibel that the reported rumors about a new Carcass album are actually true. Matthias Voigt is indeed not playing drums on the new album but Daniel Wilding is. The follow-up to 1996's Swansong will be released in 2013 through a yet-to-be determined label.

The recording line-up consists of Bill Steer (guitars), Jeff Walker (bass/vocals), Daniel Wilding (drums), and the band will add another guitarist for their live performances.

Jeff Walker on why the band is working on a new album now: "Good timing, eh? Twenty-five years we first recorded Reek Of Putrefaction. The incentive was off Bill. I'd verbally expressed an interest in doing something but I needed Bill to have the desire and hunger again and that's exactly what has happened. He recalled watching Dan Wilding play on tour with us in 2008 and something about him struck a chord and he wanted to work with him. There was something about him that kind of reminded him of Ken, on a personal level as much as his playing. We've done this recording firstly for ourselves?there's no label backing even as you read this?in fact me and Bill have spent a small fortune out of our pocket to see this through?it's more of an artistic/personal statement than anything."

He said about the album: "We've taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it's in our blood, but it's no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I've jokingly christened some parts 'Trad Blast' and some 'Death Sleaze'... don't think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album?we're setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on [laughs]."

That's just fucking fantastic! Best news ever. Can't wait to hear what they will come up with. Love all their albums, even Swansong. Does anyone know whats up with that photo of them? Is that a reference to the movie the Re-Animator? And why? Like it, though!

The news that has me especially psyched for this, is that Bill is back doing vocals again! It's too much to expect another genre classic like Symphonies... or Necroticism again surely, but hopefully this will still be good stuff!

I'm optimistic about this but am approaching with caution in mind.

I'm not sure a 17 year gap between records will eitheir emphasise ''rusty'' or ''reformed''. However, these dudes made Necrotism and Heartwork so I'd say we'll probably be in good hands.

It'll be metalcore.

It will be grind... the worlds best grind ever. Two-thousand songs each of which clock in around .7 seconds long.

It won't be metalcore, not that there's anything wrong with metalcore. I'm intrigued by Jeff's description of it being the "missing link" between Necroticism and Heartwork... what I'm imagining here, is a Heartwork style album, but with medical textbook/gore lyrics, and Bill singing. Or a Necroticism style album, but without the gore/medical lyrics.

I came to know about this news 2 days back but wasn't sure if it's true or not. Atleast, before updating here I searched on their official website, Wiki, Myspace, Facebook and any other possible sources, i hadn't find anything that was looking like pretty drop-dead official news. Baaaaang! this morning it was already on MS.

Well, as far as this news is concerned, it's pretty looking sweet and fucking sour.

Now I have two reasons for hoping this is a great album: The first reason is obvious, and the second is that you'll look like a total plonker for making that statement!

I really hope the album makes me look like a plonker with that statement. i'll be totally OK with it. =3 it's just that i think that the long hiatus took its toll.

Haha xD

You could be right, though the one thing in Carcass' favour is that their last album "Swansong" wasn't that great. Okay, it wasn't a bad album, and was actually quite decent, but compared to Symphonies, Necroticism, and Heartwork, it was definitely a step down in quality. At least overall. The chances of the new album being on a par with Necroticism is very low I would say, but I think there's more than a fair chance it will be a better album than "Swansong" was.

you see, i've only listened to Symphonies, Necroticism, and Heartwork, i didnt listen to swansong because i did not want to spoil carcass's image in my mind I really hope the new album would be on par with the old stuff, fingers crossed.

It's funny that this band I listened to years ago and thought it was the most badass thing ever will be releasing a new album. I guess I'll be listening to Symphonies Of Sickness now.
