Alcest - New Album Update, Guest Announced

After releasing their latest album Les voyages de l'âme, French group Alcest had previously warned us that the band was working on a new album and now they have announced a guest that will do vocals on the output: Neil Halstead. The band will start the recording sessions in March.

Neige posted the following: "It is a great honor for me to reveal the second guest that will do some vocals on our next album. He is Neil Halstead, founding member of the legendary Slowdive, Mojave 3 and also having now a solo career. Needless to say that this collaboration is like a dream come true since Slowdive is not only my all times favorite band but also a big inspiration on this album. I had this guest appearance in mind from the start so you can imagine how happy and excited I feel about the fact we will actually make it happen!"

The other guest will be Billie Lindahl, the singer/songwriter of the Swedish project Promise And The Monster.

This news pleases me. And the fact that Neil Halstead is providing guest vocals makes it even better!

Problem is that Neige does shoegaze in a crappy way, the original shoegazer at least still made it interesting whereas Neige rips them off and makes it boring

you do know when he was involved with Peste Noire he was one of the biggest neo nazi fucks around, right?
He denies it now, but anyone who knew him personally back then will tell you he was one big nazi lover.

That doesn't mena his music would be bad but shame though IT IS hahahahaahahahah

I wouldn't care if he was from Mars, he makes good music and is carrying the torch right now for anything post-rock/shoegaze.

I am of the opinion, as are laods of others, Neige is currently the single most overrated artist around

I don't mind him having his beliefs but I do mind him denying he ever had them. Retarded revisionist he apparently is on the same level as Kristian Vikernes (aka Varg) People who are as revisionist as that should be ignored no matter how much of a genius they are, which both Neige and Kristian aren't tbh

I like how being allowed to voice out your dislike for Neige's work transforms into having the right of bashing left and right anyone who says the opposite. =)

I love Neige's work, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to this album, although I'd prefer one in line with Ecailles.

For once, I agree with MS's old man.
there are so many potential torch bearers for post-rock/shoegaze around, and it's a shame Neige has to get all the hype and buzz. He makes good or even decent music, fine. But carrying the torch for anything post-rock? try God is an Astronaut, Junius,Russian Circles, Fen, or even GYBE! and then you'll see where the smoke is coming from.

Well, GIAA has pretty solid status in the post rock pecking order, I think I like 65daysofstatic a bit better. Junius is great but 90% of the world has never heard of them and if they do at all it's because of Rosetta. Russian Circles are on the grid but I like The Evpatoria Report waaay more. Is Fen even post rock/shoegaze? They are more like atmospheric black metal. GYBE! had fallen off the face of earth until last year's release, I like This Will Destroy You more.

I love talking about music that's anything "post"...prolly not the thread to do it tho...

Exactly. I wouldn't care if back in the days he would sitck steel swastikas up his ass while singing the nazi anthem in his bathtub. Empathizing with the musician's life or its audience most of the time can lead to a biased apreciation of the music itself. I better read a book than some random article about Neige's life. Personally I find it really boring.

Agreed. I'm not trying to analyze Marcel's thinking but it seems like he is putting Neige in the penalty box for something stupid he did as a kid and probably regrets.

I agree with you guys that someone shouldn't really care about the artist personal life if they really like the music. This comment is outside what I think of Alcest:
Niege seems to be a bit of a bitch since he doesn't seem to regret anything because he denies it happened in the first place. It's more respectful to recognize your errors instead of denying their existence.
