When I first heard the preview, it sounded pretty cool, a good follower to SOAPF but when Anders started to sing, OMG, it was a shock and not a good one !

Destroyed by the vocals. Nice production and guitar melody at the beginning though.

Come on. It is different than usual, not great, but far better than any song on A Lack Of Purpose...

Ok, it's not great. Ok, it itsn't good either. Ok, it's bad. But not enough to deserve a 3. The intro made me hope something enoyable was coming, but it didn't.

Exactly (well aside from it being bad, because this is like high 6-ish stuff for me), I am starting to believe this whole hate reaction is just bandwagon hopping again. When the song was unveiled, in the primary thread, some people were negative towards it, which is fine but now suddenly this is the worst thing ever.

It really isn't. This is still far better than ASoP which is rated nowhere near as low as this is, and frankly this is only worse than SoaPF songs in, I dunno how to express it, subtle ways, stylistically it is the same stuff. This whole reaction baffles me to no end.

Not to mention people whine about the vocals as if it was something surprising. The vocals on SoaPF was also the weakest aspect of the album and were absolutely no better than here. I don't mind either ways, vocals generally are a minor point to me anyways.

Are the second-guessing commentaries really necessary? It's a bloody awful song through and through with absolutely no redeeming features. If people want to give it a 3 then people should be able to give it a 3. This track is far worse than anything I heard on the previous album, not that I remember an awful lot from it. But perhaps the reason people are rating this so low is because they haven't built on the last album in any way (on this single anyway). A continuation of a mediocre record with inferior song writing and even more irritating vocals? Well that's a 3 for me easily.

Also find it strange how anyone could consider the vocals on this track a "minor" point. The entire track is absolutely dominated by too-forwardly mixed vocals and terrible ones at that. Take them away and there's practically nothing left outside of rudimentary chugging and weak leads.

I was talking generally.
For some people not-so-good vocals can ruin an entire album which they'd otherwise like. I just don't care about vocals, they detract very little from the music for me. Yes, even here.

And no, I still don't hear any enormous difference between this and the last album aside from this being somewhat worse, which is exactly why I am questioning the votes, though your point that people might not be bulding on the last album is somewhat fair.

I think the problem is people are too sensitive to low scores. The site still operates on a 7-is-average philosophy, especially in reviews so no one bothers using low scores, instead going rarely lower than a 5 for an album they dislike. For me this song is not even approaching average, which to me is a 5 (regardless of what the website tries to allude when it says 6 is average), so 3.7 is about right for this song.

I absolutely agree with that, but nontheless I was talking about site standard.

I am not bothered at all by this getting so low scores, even though I disagree with them, just surprised at the notion that people seem to regard this so much lower than ASoP, which for me is the absolute low point of this band, especially the hate the vocals get. The spoken-ish parts here are quite awkward but the chorus and the singing is on par with previous album performance imo and as shocking as it may be, I actually like the vocals more on the second track (Through Oblivion) released than I did the vocals on the last album and infinitely more than on ASoP.

I guess you are kind of right about the instrumentation being bland but for some reason I still enjoy the overall sound and mood of this song. Also probably I am quite biased towards this band for nostalgic reasons, that strangely does not prevent me from hating ASoP with my guts...

Well this is a single, and ASoP is an album, so I don't think you can compare the two. I don't think a single would attract as much attention as an album. I would also be surprised if the new album gets a lower score, but if it does I would put it down to people being plain sick of how bad In Flames are these days.

To be honest, I liked the intro and so I was f*cking shocked when the singing started ! Now what really sucks is that I found (and still think) that Sounds of a Playground Fading is a pretty solid album, esp compared to shitty Sense of Purpose. But now, I'm starting to think that In Flames have lost their mind : wtf are they doing ? I planned to see them live but now I'm not so sire anymore :/

And yet you questioned Bodycount as metal?

First, don't ask me what kind of metal In Flames is supposed to be, because - if I'm not wrong - here they are labelled Gothenburg Metal like Dark Tranquillity for instance. Yet the 2 bands sound very different and DT has never disappointed me.

Secondly, what I cannot stand is RAP. There are bands or albums I can enjoy but when I hear something sounding like rap, something goes wrong in my stomach No offence meant to rap lovers, just not my thing.

Thirdly, if I only listen to metal if encompasses imho a wide range of styles from bands like RAGE or THERION, to NOCTEM or FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE and in between bands like FEAR FACTORY or CRADLE OF FILTH

Now if you need more explanation, PM please
