For three records the Finnish band Ghost Brigade have provided a unique example of melodic death metal progression. Basing their studio efforts well beyond generic limits and engaging the structures and tones of post-metal, they continue to issue their original and outlying style in IV: One With The Storm, but to a similar result as any of their prior releases.

I am EXTREMELY excited for this one! I always thought Isolation Songs was perfection, and unable to be surpassed, ever. But listening to the teaser that they released, this one might be able to pull it off after all. My expectations are off the charts...

I listened to their teaser several times. I'm expecting good changes with OWTS. Very excited indeed!

I just know this is gonna sound exactly like their previous albums - don't know if I can take another.

This record is their longest in duration, nearly 70 minutes. Four tracks are over 7 minutes, "Electra Complex" clocking 10:55.

From the looks of it, we can expect some slight departure from the usual formula here and there.

For the most part this record is pretty much the same as the previous two, and that formula is a little tired, based on initial listening. However, it's the last few tracks where this album really shines and the comfort zone is broken. This is pretty much all the lyrics the 7 minute final track has:

Elämä on tulta
En jaksa enää juosta
Hakekaa minut pois täältä
Tehkää päivistäni arvokkaita

En kanna enää huolta

Yet I still rate it a rare 9.2 I guess I never learn to take the time on clear growers before voicing out something. In the end it's a little lighter sounding overall than previous albums, but more diverse and atmospheric. Melodies of all kind outclass their previous material, which is why this album is absolutely brilliant.

For the first time, excellent production!
Nice disc, from its beginning to the end. It has not that much those hit-like songs like in the two previous, nor the inspiration of the second album, but for sure this is their key to success. This band deserves it !

This is the first album by this band that I've enjoyed. The slow riffing, Katatonia style progressions, and the mix of cleans and harsh vocals are very nice.

It could just be fanboys speaking, but it certainly sounds like this could be near the glories of Isolation Songs. I'll have to check this out!

Solid record, I think it is more consistent then the previous record in terms of quality. However, I don't have the same amazing highs from the few songs that were amazing on the last album.

Listened to this 3 times. It's a bit different from previous works but not by much. Their sound is really not surprising and refreshing anymore to me. I can still remember when I first heard Guided By Fire...Wow, what an aura! It just blew my away! But now, their isn't the enamor with this band anymore I am afraid. It's a safe release, nothing more.

It's funny really, we rip bands for "changing directions" or "changing their approach". Fanboys get angry, say the word "selllout" or wonder wtf they are doing - JK Broadrick and Neige or Steve Wilson and Michael Akerfeldt come to mind. Do people realize they wanted to move on, not wanting to make the same album over and over? I think Ghost Brigade could have used this. Hell, some of my favorite bands ever have changed recently, Rosetta and Blindead come to mind. I understand sometimes it doesn't work (Todtgelichter, anyone?) but I will never get upset at someone or band for wanting to change.

Not a safe album, and that is a FACT. Here's a direct quote from Wille (translated) from a recent interview:

"My old band Sunride [more trad. rock] did three records, after which I felt that river had run dry. Here it was the same situation: three records with the same formula, and I had absolutely no interest in doing a fourth with it. It simply wouldn't have cut it if you just modified old parts a little, and recorded 10 songs. You also can't just decide in advance that we're gonna do something different - well, you can, but you'll know it's gonna suck. So what now? Could we do better? Now it's certain we definitely could, which is why this is such an important album for me."

They also addressed it was their most difficult recording process. They broke their comfort zone which is always a big deal.

Never heared about this band before, but this album was really awesome, kind of reminds me of The oceans latest release, which was IMO one of the best releases of the last year.

Elämä on Tulta = best use of the single-chord riff since Gojira's The Art of Dying.

Which part of the song? I don't hear anything comparable to "The Art of Dying"

Oh the songs are completely different, I agree. I'm only referring to Ghost Brigade playing the same chord for the last minute or so, much like the intro of The Art of Dying being monotone chugging.
