which is the best man who plays guitar and sings at the same time?
for me, i like it when they know a balance between the singing and guitar playing, a thing which Dave Mustaine and Alexi Laiho do. between these i'll choose Mustaine though, because while laiho is more technical guitarwise, dave's got a better voice(lol though it's not very good, i know) and he's able to put some emotion and power in his voice, while laiho's sounds monotonous. just growl growl growl raagh raagh reaper

James Hetfield without doubt, not for his guitar play... just for his amazing voice that sends chills down my spine!

Muhammed from Necrophagist is impressive. Doing vocals and playing those insanely hard guitar parts, gotta give him credit for that.

John Gallagher from Dying Detus is amazing. Some of the riffs would be crazy hard to play while doing those ultra cookie monster-esque vocals. He shares his vocal duties, but he still does a fair portion of the vocals.

Definitly Mustaine for me, after seeing him live he was flawless, showed Drover whos daddy, and still sung flawlessly.

- Alexi Laiho on 1st because he has a great voice and is one of teh best guitarrists ever (He's also Tony Kakko's fav. guitar player)
- Dave Mustaine because besides singing he's flawless
- James Hetfield. For being a great rhytm player. And because of teh Nothing else matters solo.

Well, Mustaine, also Kai Hansen whom noone mentioned, Alexi Laiho, and I think I'd choose Laiho, he sings while playing some really fucking fast solos, that's not easy..... And Hetfield on concerts either sings, either plays
guitar, rarelly both in same time, and when he does, its just powerchords and simple riffs, so it isnt anything spectacular IMO....

@ed hunter i agree man, hetfield shouldn't be here. i mean...wtf? i can play whiplash or enter sandman and sing at the same time, but it doesn't make me a great guitar-vocalist.

I was Going to Mention Both of those Guys. Yeah Laiho is more Technical I suppose and I do like Mustaine's voice better, But you think he has a bad voice? I think his Voice is Unique, Lolz on the raagh raagh reaper for laiho though, pretty accurate
I would also have to Bring up My dead Homie Chuck Schuldiner, he had one of the most Unique Voices in Metal, and he was also a legendary Shredder.
Mille Petrozza From Kreator has to get Hella Props, as he has one of the Most Creative and Unique Voices in Thrash and he plays in one of the worlds best thrash bands.

there are probably a lot of others I'm missing...........

I also think James Hetfield is the best rythm guitar. But the very best I think it's Alexi Laiho, better guitarrist than vocalist but still very good in both.

Mikael Akerfeldt, hands down.

I completely forgot about Aekerfeldt when originally posted in this thread....so Ill agree.

Also Blackie Lawless (he stopped playing bass after the last command). Hes not really all that great of a guitarist, but hes got an amazing voice and his guitar riffs sound good.

Seconded. Although Wintersun's stage presence on the 'Live at Summer Breeze 2005' DVD is a bit lacking, watching the clips from their last tour show that Jari is a masterful guitarist and a great vocalist...in the studio, he is brilliant.

Otherwise, props to Chuck (for his beautiful solos and unique voice) and Mille Petrozza (great riffs and evil vocals). Two that haven't been mentionned (bizaarely) are Ihsahn (Emperor) and Jon Notveidt (Dissection). Both had really unique voices that transcended the usual cookie-cutter BM vocals, and they're (were, in Notveidt's case) great guitarists and composers.
