I really enjoy those 10+ minutes songs, because I can just start them in the player and i don't have to care that the music will stop and I will have to select some other track within next minutes...

the longest i have heard whole so far are :

Long songs are Funeral Doom, ambient doom, and also doom metal and black metal also has long songs, not pure fucking black, but whit infuences liek Windir, Wyrd, also sympho and melodic ha slong songs

Longest song that I've heard would probably be Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra's "The Key to the Gates of the Apocalypse" which comes in at 72 minutes.

Second longest would be Green Carnation's "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" which is 60 minutes long.

Hey, try X Japan's "Art Of Life" it clocks at 29:00, it's power/prog, totally in English, it has an awesome piano interlude :-)

well, i guess the longest i've heard and know of are dream theaters 'a change of seasons' and 'octavarium', which are about 23 minutes long. also, if you consider that the second disc from six degrees of inner turbulence is actually one song, that wraps up at about over 40 minutes. besides that, i just know a couple of songs that last around 15-16 minutes

Edge of Sanity's Crimson (40:00) is the longest song I've heard so far. I know that people are going to out beat it with Sleep's Dopesmoker (63:25).

Well, Rush's 2112 (song) is about 20 minutes long (not metal, but great song that doesn't get boring),
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade Of Gray (if considered as a single song) is over 50 minutes long...
Shadow Gallery has some 10+ minute songs,
Death Angel - The Ultra Violence (song) is about 10 minutes long

Longest song I have ever heard, from the band Mistigo Vargoth Darkestra. To bad it sucks.

Band Darkestrah had album/songs, and it is really boring. I like long songs, but that is just too much, especially when half of the song are effects, other half the same riff in different versions.

I alerady wrote my favorites in 10+ songs, but Running Wild's Ghost and The Treasure Island along with Iced Earth's Dante's Inferno and any Summoning song, just randomis e their aldum, and first song you hear, that is my favorite, maybe some other I can't remember right now are my favorite.

My all time long song but not over 10 minutes wourl be Russ by Arkona

btw, I improvised song's name, this is how it is called, if you want to find it Аркона - Русь , it is cyrillic font, so you must type like that in your browser or smth.

My personal favourite would be Moonsorrow's V: Hävitetty, an amazing album, with just two songs: Jäästä Syntynyt / Varjojen Virta and Tuleen Ajettu Maa with total time of 56 minutes, from which they both take cca. 28 minutes (sorry, I don't know the exact timing). I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned, it's gotta be one of the best releases in 2007; Moonsorrow have been known for having a little longer songs (my fave is still 1065:Aika with almost 10 minutes), but I was kinda in doubt about having just two songs. However, they are both great, especially Jäästä Syntynyt, it just flows so nicely and I can't get bored of it. I never have the feeling I'm listening to a half an hour longing song.

The longest metal song that i know is "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness" from Green Carnation. I heard it one more time today and it's amazing, great music indeed. Moonsorrow's songs are long too, but well.. the longest that i've heard was "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness".

I usually discover long songs through Opeth,
and I'm really surprised to find these masses of long songs in Metal...
Anyway, try to pick up Good Long Songs, in order to make this topic
more precious, because these songs with era's lengh Intros, Speeches
or Noise aren't Songs, they are only tracks...
We need Songs here, Something like Opeth's "Nectar"...

I think Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt II Scenes From A Memory (1:17:??)

However I just looked up track times and added them together and got just over 81 mins, then another site reckons 78 min something seconds so I dont know if my memory is crap or I am wrong, either way it still tops the list.

OMG =D I wouldn't had ever thought that METAL bands have over one hour long songs. I can understand trance/techno songs to be that long, but this goes over my understanding..

i think it is good...you can run one track as a musical background (i need metal music at background when i do anything), than one hour do something else and dont have to care that it will stop and you will have to manualy load next track...so i like long long songs

I am all about progressive rock and long songs in general. The longest song I have ever heard is an hour and 19 minutes which is just one song. One of my favorite long metal songs is the Odyssey and The Divine Wings of Tragedy. Of course this list wouldn't be complete without The Ivory Gate of Dreams. Also Keeper of the Seven Keys and Halloween are great. Veni, Vidi, Vici by virgin steele. So many great long songs. Prog Rock is so fucking amazing! had to throw that in there!

As for long songs, nobody mentioned Reverend Bizarre yet. Their new (their last) album "III: So Long Suckers" has two 25 minute songs and one 29 minute song. The rest of the songs are quite long too.

I agree about your post because RB are so know but same time rear band, ist hard to get em in shops and so on

How Far To Asgaard from Tyr is not the best long song ive heard but is the longer one i have, 29:27 minutes. Mu Sieiddi Beales Mun Gottan from Shaman (old Korpiklaani) is relly good too ( but i think is not really a metal song, just epic) with 17:32 minutes.
