A surprising number of fans have compared Shiki to Imaginary Sonicscape. That is incorrect. The only valid reference to that album is the one endorsed by Mirai Kawashima himself, whereby we remind him that IS is still his best album and he should keep working. But I wonder what those fans are really after – Shiki is, like all Sigh albums, a masterpiece completely on its own terms.

I didn't really like "Heir To Despair", not that I can remember why anymore, but this one is sounding fantastic. I look forward to giving it many spins, as I'm sure it will be a real grower

This my first time listening to Sigh. Very cool - it's intrigued me...
Can anyone recommend to me where I should go to next if I want to explore their discography?

For a deep dive, I also highly recommend In Somniphobia. It unites many of their different influences, whereas albums like Hangman's Hymn stick to a single style.

All their albums are worth listening to (again and again). You really can't go wrong with any of them especially because they are all so different from one another. Contrary to what nepalski wrote I would highly recommend listening to their debute album "Scorn Defeat" though, which wasn't at all "straight up black metal" when it came out and is still surprising in some respects even today. While "Imaginary Sonicscape" certainly is their most iconic album, I think "Hail Horror Hail" was the masterpiece that truly established them as one of the greatest Avant-garde metal bands. I would suggest listening to that one together with their EP "Ghastly Funeral Theatre" as the two work brilliantly together
Have a great time discovering this fantastic band!

After "graveward" and "heir to despair" this is my third sigh album. Not quite as good as the previous this one still packs a variety of punches. My favourite song here has got to be Satsui - Geshi No Ato. That song is perfect in almost all the ways.

I don't really think highly to the album as a whole but there's definitely some great moments in there. "Satsui - Geshi No Ato" is a great track, clearly the stand out for me.

Seeing some of these tracks played live is making me really reevaluate this album which initially kinda disappointed me, it's really growing on me now. "Satsui - Geshi No Ato" especially really killed it live.
Still would consider it in the lower half of Sigh's discography, but that doesn't mean much with such a consistently amazing band.
