There's a mold one creates when being categorized as one subgenre. Pupil Slicer's debut Mirrors was quite unquestionably a mathcore album. So is Blossom for the most part, but it's one less interested in that mold. Rather it goes wherever the sound takes it.

I actually like this a lot. Has a bit of everything, from high speed hardcore tracks to more melodic post rock tracks and it’s all done pretty well.

I've never really been into mathcore, but this album I actually do like. The music sounds extremely manic at times, but it's actually very cleverly constructed, and the softer parts work very effectively. There is so much energy and aggression in her vocals but I like the softer vocals too, and the drumming is very good.

I wasn't especially fond of the debut, but I feel this is a significant step up. Yes, that might partly be because they go towards emotional post-rock/metal on songs such as "The Song At Creation's End", but I also feel more connected to the mathcore side - feels like they're a bit closer to pre-Time Will Die Rolo Tomassi here

closer to pre-Time Will Die Rolo Tomassi

I'm not familiar with their work other than the last two albums, but the heavier moments definitely reminded me of Rolled Tomatoes (especially the production). Your comment sounds like a bit of a recommendation for me to check out their other releases.

You'll probably like Grievances at least if you're down for some more mathcorey sounds - Opalescant, Funereal and particularly All That Has Gone Before aren't too far away stylistically from Time Will Die. Astraea is probably the furthest back I can go with Rolo before I lose interest, but even that one is still decent

I did like very much the softer parts, like in The Song At Creation's End, or in the title track. But getting into Mathcore seems difficult for me right now.
