I've seen in real life and on these forums that alot of people have different opinions on In Flames new sound, some say that the introduction of Anders clean vocals were a good idea and other says that the new songs have weaker riffs. For me I can't decide, as I agree with both of these statements, but it would be interesting to see what other people think.

Old ( Jester Race, Whoracle, Clayman, and colony, with more emphasis on Jeseter Race and Whoracle )

I don't like anything the band has done after clayman. Though Reroute to Remain had some good songs on it. I just think their songwriting abilities have faded alittle since their old days, but its not like I want another Whoracle, after all, if they did, they would just be repeating themselves. Or maybe Im just used to their traditional sound?

I prefer Old over new, as in Clayman and before. My favorite album of theirs is Reroute To Remain, but the next 2 were really mediocre, while the old stuff was much more consistent.

Of course old In Flames, it was the time when their music was much more amazing than now, i don't care about their later albums..., they're all boring ones

Old In Flames --> as said before, their sound now is weak and it's not the same kind of melody there was on the earlier albums.

I don't like any of them, but I like some old In Flames songs, while all of the new songs I heard was boring and stupid, without anything I could like in their music, so, old one.

I prefer OLD In Fames!! No doubts about it...
Imagine something like that:

A balance with "The Jester Race" on one extreme... I think... can a -New In Flames- album, or ALL of them since "Reroute To Remain" to the present, if you put in the other extreme, change the balance?

For me is impossibleeee!

NEW OF COURSE!!!

Haha... noooooo way. Old In Flames is one of my favourite bands and the band I fell in love with. Sure, I do like Reroute to Remain and even Soundtrack to Your Escape, but I despise Come Clarity! But seriously? Like R2R and StYE stands any chance against their first four albums? And the fifth?

I'm not a fan of In Flames, but the old stuff is definitely better. I'm not sure as to what albums exactly count as old and new (except for the obvious ones), but the two newest albums are crap so it's an easy decision.

If colony counts as old In Flames then i'm definetly with old In Flames. Come Clarity is a horrible album lol, and what makes it worse is that one of the songs is stuck in my head, it's worse then having a stupid jingle stuck in your head .

For me it's old In Flames, since I can't bear listening to the new sound for more than one song length. It's capable of giving me a headache, methinks

And surprisingly, I'm in the mood for them right now

Was anyone really expecting the new In flames to have a chance here in the poll? Yes I too prefer old to the new, Reroute to remain was allright but the latest two have been quite uninteresting.

I listen to In Flames here and there and I honestly can't tell the different too much but what I know is that the older stuff appeals to me much more than the newer stuff...

I voted for Old In Flames. In Flames till "Clayman" was an excellent band! "Lunar Strain", "The Jester Race" and "Whoracle" are terrific albums! "Reroute To Remain" was not bad but after this album In Flames went down...

Their older music had so much more when it came to original, awesome riffs. But I do prefer the new, cleaner vocals. I just prefer lyrics that you can understand what is being said... that way I can hear what's being said and interpret what message the song is trying to get across. I'm not much for screaming. Either way, their older work has the slight edge, imo. But because I like the way the band's taking their style, I voted "Equal". I'm hoping their next album will be a mixture of Clayman riffs and their newer clean singing.

I prefer newer 'cause I'm never been to much into death metal and 1st albums are not as melodic as the newer ones... Besides I like Nu, SO I like a lot the newer albums

This really isn't a contest, unless you're only into Nu-Metal. The older albums are so much more complex, and well written. You really cant beat "Jester's Race" or even their first album with Mikael Stanne on vocals.

I'm a bit into Nu, but I don'tmthink it's about being into it, it just about liking more melodic stuff. You can't deny that newer albums are way more melodic.

I don't know if I'd say they're more melodic, there just isn't as much going on. The first few albums were definitely a lot heavier, but after you get to "Jester's Race" up to "Clayman" the music gets really melodic.

In Flames sell more albums now than they used too, so I would of expected more than 2 votes for new, even if this is a metal forum.

I like both but in different way. For example when I'm in the mood of melodic stuff I prefer old, but when I want something easy to listen (when i'm working or just resting) I prefer the new. If nothing special, I mix their catalogue in my playlist.

Yeah I like to listen to the older albums when I can concentrate on it more but I find myself listening to the newer albums when I'm doing homework or something.
Technically, the old In Flames are better, but the new sound still sounds great to my ears

Old. I think enough people explained this. Their new stuff is just weak, it's like if they lost their passion in writing good music. Nothing inspirational anymore.
