Ministry, probably the pioneers of industrial metal. The band that NIN without question took alot of ideas from. I'm not even really a fan of Industrial metal, but Ministry were something superb and unique.I own The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste .......Their best effort is probably Psalm 69..... Anyone else a fan of this influential Chicage based band?

I cannot believe there was never a Ministry thread!

I love Ministry! My favorite album is The Land Of Rape And Honey with Houses Of The Mole coming in at a close second...I love the rawness of their music and the angry and blunt nature of it....someone described them as hard tack which sounds like one of the greatest descriptions of their music...

It is a myth that Ministry invented industrial metal but it is true that without them and their whole leather cowboy image it would never reach the popularity it had in the 90s.

As for the "Ministry and me" story, The Mind was the album that really started my listening to music more than just a social activity... Since that time I have managed to make myself known in their fan community and indeed even met the band. Nowadays I guess I got a little bored of their music, which was inevitable considering they are not as diverse sonically as they'd like for people to believe.

I think NIN took more of their sound from Skinny Puppy, but Ministry are great nevertheless. So far I have: The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, Psalm 69, Houses Of The Mole, Rio Grande Blood, and The Last Sucker; and have enjoyed each album. I like the sheer anger Al presents but I can see what Jupitreas is saying about the lack of diversity in their music, thus I consider myself a "social listener."
I thought my girlfriend would be into them because she likes NIN and other semi-Industrial music, but she doesn't like the "punk"-ness.

I love Ministry in small doses, except for Rio Grande Blood because I can listen to that anytime. I have The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, Psalm 69, Houses of the Mole (my 2nd favorite), and Rio Grande Blood and I like them all, but I still haven't picked up the newest album yet. Rio Grande Blood is just so energetic and so hateful, and it took me by surprise because I didn't think they could make an album better than Houses of the Mole.

I really can't get into old Ministry. It sounds like 80's pop pride to me, and I can imagine there being some sort of correlation between pop and industrial, but I just do not like their first era at all. Their Halloween song...omfg...

I'm trying to go to their final tour in Canada in a couple of months too

Ministry pulled the ultimate- a reverse sell-out. They started making 80's wave stuff (which is actually enjoyable for those of us who grew up on 80's wave) before rebelling completely and doing their own thing.

The six song live album is perhaps my favorite, just because it's a tight track list consisting of most of my favorite ministry songs with no filler.

haha yes, i really can't stand their earlier stuff........but then again I really strongly dislike all new wave anyway , i think it's the damnest thing that they later on made the music more hard rock/metal, "the ultimate reverse sell-out"

Technically they were just encouraging people to vote at all, since so few people do it nowadays. But yeah, they were obviously anti-Bush and in the States that only leaves you with one realistic alternative, if you want to vote.

al should love the Bush family. seems he puts out his best work when a Bush is in the White House...

Reagan/Bush or George H.W. Bush brought us "The Land of Rape and Honey", "The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste", "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up", and "Psalm 69."

The Clinton Years saw the release of "Filth Pig" and "Dark Side of the Spoon."

George W. Bush takes over as El Presidente and we get "Animositisomina", "Houses of the Molé", "Rio Grande Blood", and "The Last Sucker."

A lot of Ministry fans consider Filth Pig to be some of the band's best work though, while Darkside is easily the most experimental and indeed diverse offering. Politics just allow for Al's drug-wrecked brain to focus on something, lol

this is just my personal opinion, and my musical taste, but hey, if you like 'em, then why not listen to them

when youve gone out with an emo for 6 months and didnt know they were emo, then the concept of emo, really starts to freak you out, but like i said, maybe it was just the album, and yes, the used are gay, but for some reason, i still see comparisons

I have land of rape and honey, psalm 69, greatest fits, and in case you didn't feel like showing up. In case you didn't feel like showing up is a legendary album, and have liked the others, but not to the same extent (Hizbollah is a great song though). Judging by the live album and greatest fits, I think the earlier stuff (but not too early) is somewhat better. Do you all think I have missed out on some essential Ministry, or would you recommend that I check out the songs from A mind is a terrible thing to taste that were not on the live album?

you should definitely check out The Mind since it is one of their best albums... Never Believe, Cannibal Song and Faith Collapsing are also great songs and they dont appear on the live album.

And that guy thinking Ministry was emo... lol, one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard

I have Psalm 69:.. and The Mind Is A... and their both pretty cool, I prefer Psalm 69 so far though. The first time I heard Jesus Built My Hotrod I was like "What the... wow" I also can't see how their emo in any way at all.. oh and I like the used (but not the song Lowelas posted that's a shitty one)
