So i wanted to know whos your favourite out of these four massive 80s thrash metal bands based ONLY on their material from that decade. Helps if you would explain on your choice.

The albums (not inclueding EP's) that are inclued from this decade are:

Anthrax:
Fistful of Metal
Spreading The Disease
Among The Living
State of Euphoria

Megadeth:
Killing Is My Business
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying
So Far, So Good... So What

Metallica:
Kill 'Em All
Ride The Lightning
Master Of Puppets
...And Justice For All

Slayer:
Show No Mercy
Hell Awaits
Reign In Blood
South Of Heaven

My favourite out of the list would be Slayer. They are my favourite thrash metal band and all their albums that came out in the 80s are my favourite albums and get played on a regular basis. Jeff's and Kerry's guitar work is amazing with the riffs that the two come up with... plus "Reign In Blood" is one of my favourite metal albums created.

Poll

Your favourite American thrash metal on their material from the 80s

Metallica
272
Slayer
166
Megadeth
118
Anthrax

Megadeth? I like them but haven't heard any of their 80's work appart from Peace Sells...

Man, you like them without listening to their 80's stuff... Why did you vote then? But what's more important go check their two other albums out. I personally really like their debut.

Well Rust In Peace is enough to Like Megadeth

Haha, so freaking true, man. If it wasn't for Rust in Peace, I wouldn't love Megadeth so much. But... Rust in Peace is in the 90's, so it doesn't count. Anyway, of course Metallica ruled in the 80's, at least compared to Megadeth.

More brutal is better! C'mon you can't seriously say early megadeth was close or anthrax (which was miles off). The only close battle would be Metallica since all there best stuff was in this era. But slayer still triumps with reign in blood and South of Heaven(there best 2 albums in my opinion). There just that more memorable.

I think Mustaine wrote some crazy riffs starting from his debut with Megadeth. I have listened to all three 80's album once more recently and I gotta say, they are all great. I think I got tired of Slayer. I listened to Reign in Blood yesterday, and it just went by so quickly. "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood" are the two songs which have good riffs; all the others are kinda average. As far as Metallica, every song on the first four albums is memorable.

I hate myself. Always picking on Metallica and now I have to vote for them. Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are far greater IMO than the albums of the other 3 bands and, besides, they had a greater technique in "And Justice" than the other 3 bands again. Next will be Anthrax perhaps. "Spreading the Disease" is one of my ever favourites, since I like that style quite a lot more than Metallica's. However, I don't like "State of Euphoria" very much. As regards Slayer, I am not a huge fan of "Hell Awaits" or "South of Heaven" and finally, as for Mustaine's people, only "Peace Sells" is IMO remarkable among the metal scene then and now -compared to "killing" and "so far"

Yeah I know, but Rust In Peace is IMO better than anything Metallica have done. It's just really good and wished it counted in this poll

After some serious consideration, I wouldn't mind changing my vote from Megadeth to Anthrax. The more I think about it (although I still enjoy Megadeth) I probably listen to "Among The Living", "Spreading The Disease", and even "State Of Euphoria" moreso than the 80's Megadeth albums...

I vote for Slayer because they have many good albums from the 80s. For example Hell Awaits, Reign In Blood and South Of Heaven. Metallica has to good albums (Master Of Puppets). But in my opinion is Slayer the best thrash metal band in the world. I listen to the Reign In Blood album every day and that album is a HELLYEAH album.

Good choice, same here I seriously think that Anthrax rocks more than the others

I mean most ppl need some time to truly understand Anthrax's works. They fucking kick ass
Especially on ''Among The Living'' and ''Spreading The Disease''

With Classics like, Madhouse, Medusa, Caught In A Mosh, Gung-Ho, I Am The Law, Idians ... ...

You just can't stop listening to them

I dont think there are many bands that compare to Slayer.

1)They influenced so many bands and even genres
2)They dont sell out
3)The music has so much energy
4)Reign in Blood....no need to say much more

I think they are the best thrash bands of the 80's and one of the best metal bands ever

80s stuff only ? Metallica without a doubt. If RIP would be included it would be a close call between Tallica and Megadeth.
Slayer is awesome too. Never really liked Anthrax except for Fistful and Among The Living.

Megadeth's music is far more meaningful than any slayer song. dont get me wrong i fuckin love slayer, but megadeth means more to me than the other 3. and everyone should give more credit to anthrax!!

I freakin love all these bands, and I dont see why people are saying Anthrax isnt even close, theyve got riffs just as brutal as slayer, their drummer is freaking amazing, Frank Bello is an awesome bassist, and Joey can sing way better than anyone of the other big four vocalists.

Ok - I appreciate that Metallica seem to be the most popular here but here's my bit on the whole thing. For me, THE definitive Thrash album from the 80's by far is Hell Awaits. That album has it all and was so extreme for that time. I remember hearing it when I was a wee lad and couldn't believe how evil it was. The Satanic lyrics were the most extreme I had seen at the time and the riffs were the heaviest. Take At Dawn They Sleep for example, this track sounds amazing even today and for me is one of the finest pieces of real Thrash ever written.
Anthrax has their moments but were never as extreme, fast or heavy as Slayer! Megadeth and Metallica were always kind of left on the back burner for me because although you have classics like Master of Puppets and Peace Sells.. they never really compared to the sheer brutality of what Slayer were doing.
So there you have it, Slayer are my favurite 80's Thrash band followed in close second place by Nuclear Assault - just lisyen to Survive, The Plague or Game Over and tell me they are nothing short of pure class!!
