Does anyone think they could elaborate on that Tyr pronounciation? Seems a bit ambiguous to me.

Tyr is pronounced as 'Tear'

That's what I thought but someone told me that was incorrect on the previous page so I'm unsure now.

I just looked the word tyr up in the dictionary and it is pronounced as 'tear' or 'teer'

If you ask my opinion, it's more like "tewr". That is because in northern languages, the letter Y is pronounced like "ew", which is similar to the German letter Ü. Thyrfing is "thewr-feeng" also.

Kotipelto = kotty-pelt-awe
(when Finnish words finish with O, it is never "oh", it's always more like "awe" but it's short)

I think you are right actually. would it be pronounced as 'tewr' because of the thing above the Y? i looked up tyr in the dictionary and it said it was pronounced as 'teer' but it didnt have that thing above the Y.

How to pronounce 'Krisiun'? Can anybody help? When I pronounce tis name people think I'm saying 'christian'..

short and sweet one..
I've decided to pronounce 'krisiun' as 'kree-sy-un' until someone corrects me (maybe its correct?)
(kree as in tree, sy as in shy and un as in undo)... Nepali tongue mispronounces most(almost all) foreign words, so its not my fault if the pronounciation of this one is wrong

I say 'Kriss-ee-yun' (the 'y' is not emphasised much). The only other person I've met who has said Krisiun is my boyfriend and he says it the same way as me so...

I used to pronounce that way but people thought I was trying to say 'christian' (nepali tongue and ears! )... so I changed my pronounciation.

Does anyone here know how to pronounce Adagio or Kivimetsän Druidi? i find these 2 bands difficult to pronounce

Kivimetsän Druidi is something like this:
Key-vee-met-san Droo-ee-dee

- all vowels are short (pronounced fast)
- 'key' & 'vee' are supposed to rhyme
- san is pronounced like "sand" without the 'd'
- droo like "drool" without the 'l'

Actually, I could just record me saying that...
Here it is: Download (.wav file)

No Problem. Adagio is a French band right? So I suppose it's pronounced either like the English dictionary word (link), or alternatively like French (which I know nothing about).

They really picked the wrong name for their band...adagio means to play the music slowly and what do they do? Play a shitload of fast fluttering notes together in one bar after another...I dunno...maybe the tempo isn't fast and that's what they mean by calling themselves Adagio...or maybe it's just a coincidence instead of a contradiction...?

@Kap'N korrupt: I never really thought about it like that. i guess Adagio's music is fast but it could be slow too if you compare them to other bands but i havent really done that so i wouldnt know Lol. maybe they called themselves Adagio because their music is well controlled and graceful. im just guessing. but like i said i wouldnt know Lol.

Haha, I've always heard it pronounced as "Mar-dook", well, that's how my friends and I pronounce it at least, but who knows. It's weird to hear that someone actually thinks it's "Duke" on the end, I'd never imagine it to be pronounced that way...

Are you saying "tewr" as in tew (rhymes with chew) r? I got my Danish friend to pronounce it for me and it's kind of hard to explain, but it's like...Tu-yr with an e-ish sound infecting the "u".

That's a bit different as I pronounce it, I use a bit more of a 'K' with the 'Z/S'. Not a big difference though. Thanks for posting that, though I don't really like Xasthur anyway. This video is quite good.

If Marduk takes the name straight from Babylonian mythology, then I believe it's mahr-dook. A few years ago I saw a historical documentary where everyone pronounced it this way, but unfortunately I have no idea what the documentary's name is. And, I've seen different spellings listed elsewhere too.
