The thing that should not be, it just sounds so dark and epic.

Enter Sandman is epic. I think it's one of the most popular and most liked Metallica songs ever.

Dyer's Eve, the pure hate and anger makes it my favourite Metallica song.

To Live Is To Die. Really heavy, kinda proggy, catchy melodic riffs and the acoustic parts summon the puppies of love.
Songs where Burton was involved in the songwriting are among the best of their catalog.

Cliff had no hand in the writing of the music to that song though. His only contribution to the song was the lyrics.

Nope, some riffs (specially the acoustic intro and ending, I read somewhere) are loosely based on music he wrote before dying.
The words were supposedly also his, as his sister found it written by him I don't remember where, but in the end it was an excerpt from a book or something. They found that out a lot later.

Today, after 3 years from my last post here, i would say the best would be "Orion" and "Fade To Black"

My best Metallica song is my secret, but my publicized one is the song of father-son or conflict or fight relationship The Days That Never Comes.

I haven't cared about Metallica since very long, but I owe them a lot because they . My favorite songs by them are:
Fight Fire For Fire: It sounds like a pure tempest.
Fade To Black: That ending solo is amazing.
Creeping Death: A great piece of thrash, with awesome Ancient Egyptian-esque lyrics.
Master Of Puppets: No explanation needed.
Orion: Crushing.
Welcome Home (Sanitarium): Atmospheric stuff.
Dyers Eve: Pure thrashing stuff.

In that case, man is only air as well.

My personal favorite Metallica song would have to be One. I love how melancholic the song is at first, and it builds to a great climax. I don't listen to the band much now, but I always thought that song was awesome.
