So i wanted to know whos your favourite out of these four massive 80s thrash metal bands based ONLY on their material from that decade. Helps if you would explain on your choice.

The albums (not inclueding EP's) that are inclued from this decade are:

Anthrax:
Fistful of Metal
Spreading The Disease
Among The Living
State of Euphoria

Megadeth:
Killing Is My Business
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying
So Far, So Good... So What

Metallica:
Kill 'Em All
Ride The Lightning
Master Of Puppets
...And Justice For All

Slayer:
Show No Mercy
Hell Awaits
Reign In Blood
South Of Heaven

My favourite out of the list would be Slayer. They are my favourite thrash metal band and all their albums that came out in the 80s are my favourite albums and get played on a regular basis. Jeff's and Kerry's guitar work is amazing with the riffs that the two come up with... plus "Reign In Blood" is one of my favourite metal albums created.

Poll

Your favourite American thrash metal on their material from the 80s

Metallica
272
Slayer
166
Megadeth
118
Anthrax

I very much agree that a lot of people these days love to downplay Metallica's important role in the early years of thrash.

FUCKIN SLAYER!!!!!!!!!! Show No Mercy kicks more ass than any Megadeth, Anthrax or Metallica album. Hell Awaits is a very evil album with killer riffs. Reign in Blood is the fastest and hardest album out of all of these albums and South Of Heaven, despite being a change of pace for Slayer was very well done.

I gotta go Slayer. Those are their best albums. Can't forget about Haunting the Chapel EP either. Those Megadeth albums are fuckin' killer too. Those are the only Metallica albums that are good. After that we all know what happen. BTW Metallica are not the founders of thrash. Overkill and Exodus formed before them. Thrash kinda evolved from Motorhead and Venom anyway

Overkill and Exodus formed before them.

And both were cover bands at the time playing nwobhm songs and punk songs and only started playing thrash after Metallica had released Hit The Lights on Metal Massacre 1.

Ouch. Not gonna have a flame-war with you but we can agree to disagree. You really didn't like Among the Living, State of Euphoria and Persistance of Time?

Since Rust In Peace came out in 1990 I have to say Metallica, otherwise it would be Megadeth. Albums 2-4 of Metallica are some of the best memories I have of experiencing music. Not only did they introduce me to metal but Metallica gave a voice to my frustrations and feelings when I was a teenager.

mmm of those three I only find Among The Living okay. Spreading The Disease and Fiatful Of Metal are satill their best. And behind those two Sound Of White Noise is their best. State has a couple of good tracks and Persistence is just downright bad. It's teliing that the Joe Jackson song is the best song on the album.

Metallica with Slayer following close behind. The only reason I didn't pick Slayer was because Season In The Abyss was released in the 90s. Otherwise it would have been much harder to pick.

I can't believe how underrated Megadeth are Dave plays guitar a lot better than Hammett and Hettfield. And he writes better riffs. If Dave could have kept writing the same material he was writing while he was with Metallica he could have became a god, but he had to change his sound after he left metallica!!!

At blacktooth venom is a death metal band inspired by thrash

Venom is more thrash/speed metal than death metal. They never were considered death metal. They were a big part in shaping black metal too. So they weren't inspired by thrash since thrash metal wasn't even established at the time.

I'd call them thrash/black.

Gahhh, I wasn't planning on commenting here, but seeing just a list of thrash albums released by these bands in one decade just blew me away. I mean, obviously I knew when all these were released, but fuck so many metal classics by just 4 bands in 7 years!? Crazy, anyways, this is how my list would go...

1) Metallica - I mean, I can't help it. My first metal band, first metal concert, fuuuuck is it possible to get nostalgia when you are 16 and you are talking about 2 years ago? Whatever, they rock. Kill 'Em All is just pure classic thrash, Ride the Lightning is such a focused forward album, Master of Puppets is awesomely heavy and the guitar tone throughout is just great, and ...Justice has so much great guitar work and is my favorite album vocally (well, tied with Load I guess, but ...Justice is obviously the better album.

2) Slayer - Had an equally impressive run in the 80's, I just slightly prefer the more progressive turn Metallica took. Show no Mercy and Hell Awaits are just such great examples of early thrash. Reign in Blood is well... And South of Heaven is a cool dark yet really intense album, although not quite as consistant as I'd like in my opinion.

3) Megadeth - Killing is My Business... is probably my favorite debut by any of these bands, and Peace Sells is an even better album IMO, but I still don't appreciate So Far, So Good, So What! as much as most other people for some reason. I love that instrumental at the beginning, and In My Darkest Hour is a great song, but the others just seem so lame compared to the other songs on the albums by these bands in the 80's. If Rust In Peace was released 10 months earlier, then fuck I would have no idea who to vote for.

4) Anthrax - Yeah, I mean absolutely fantastic band. Probably my favorite to see live nowadays (although Metallica was still great...!) but IMO their studio stuff just can't quite compare with the absolute genius that the other bands produced. I mean, Anthrax is a great thrash band, but their sound just isn't as full in the studio for me.

However, when looking at that list of albums released by these band sin the 80's, who doesn't want to crank up Slayer's "Show No Mercy", or Megadeth's "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?"

What the hell? They are no way the founders of thrash man, not even close. Venom is all the way. Then comes Slayer. Metallica was thrash but not the first.

Well, Metallica is not overrated

Any band capable of being forgiven by thousands of fans worldwide for playing shitty music since 1990 simply because they released a few good thrash albums in the '80s is overrated if you ask me.
