a thread to discuss the best songs that pay tribute to the songwriter's (or the character in the lyrics's) Father, pure and simple.

I know most people will spam Manowar here so i didn't make a poll

imo it's a tie between Mountains and Defender from Manowar, but i choose Mountains because it's more varied than Defender. it's also a very epic song and the emotion that Eric puts in the vocals is awesome.

I was wondering the same thing. Is there a band called Father ?

Or is it about my/your/someone's father? If it's that, The Best Of Times by Dream Theater readily comes to mind.

Or is it about a god as a father figure ?

i haven't heard of a band called "Father"(apart maybe from Vader haha), and i'm pretty sure they, unlike some other controverted heavy metal group don't have songs named "Mountains" and "Defender"

so as a conclusion yeah it's a thread about songs which just make you remember your old man. and by old man i don't mean the resident fun-music-hating misanthropic doomster found on your local internet forum.

Well, as I said, The Best Of Times by Dream Theater.

Actually Vader is the Dutch word for Father

Okay now I understand what you mean. So please also explain it in your opening post cause now it isn't clear at all what you mean.
Btw not a single Manowar song is a tribute to my father since he is not a gay fur wearing poser (unlike Manowar)

Like Father, Like Son by Exodus. Doesn't remind me of my father in particular, but of a friend's father.
It's about abuse as a child leading to violence, anger, etc. later in life.
