There are a good number of excellent Atmospheric Black Metal bands in the US right now.

Maybe not that much, but there are LEGIONS of vndergrovnd black metal bands in the US to check out. A lot and a lot of bands.
And btw I thought the thrash scene these days was weak?

Definitely thrash, I didn't even have to think on that one
A lot of the old school thrash metal bands are still releasing good stuff (or maybe that's just my opinion). And there's some pretty awesome newer bands too. If anything thrash just doesn't have the popularity that it used to have.

Also, just because a genre features hundreds/thousands of underground bands doesn't necessarily mean those bands are inherently worth listening to.

Definitely american thrash, alot of great albums and bands everything from slayer to demolition hammer

You posted like five albums. Out of over 1000. Hence why I said virtually all 90's thrash... obviously there are some gems, just like with any genre from any decade. The problem with the '90s is that the majority of thrash releases were garbage.

Bleh, I posted only five, I could've posted more, i'm just saying that before shouting that the 90's were shit... it is better to see what it had to offer.

I'm kind of tired to see people overuse this statement that is why Troy

Thrash in America is obviously very big, but I think Sludge Metal and Stoner Metal really get overlooked I mean there are a couple of Sludge Metal bands out there that have had great succes , and Stoner Metal has had a couple of pretty solid bands as of late.

Even though I'm American, I don't really care for the metal scene here, I'm much more captivated by Europe's metal scene. However I do like some of the prog metal bands here, so I voted for that.

I would vote for "Agalloch-like atmospheric folk/black metal", but it is not in the list
