Well... best metal guitarist thread, i've listened to a lot of guitarists, many hours of listening make me create this short 6 guitarists list... i'm letting out some names (like randy rhoads, alexi laiho, luca turilli), i know it... but here are my 6, maybe all of you metalstormers out there have many more guys to put in this list... but... well, criteria used was versatility, skills, technique, discipline and creativity... with all that said, i give my vote to Yngwie because, he has built all his career around his guitar, and he's for sure a guitar god..

Ah, it's all coming back to me now. The greatest guitarist in metal is without a doubt Tommy T. Baron of Coroner. Listen to No More Color. Be in awe of the endless assault of mindbottling riffs and solos.

Depends upon what style you are in to. My personal favourite is Yngwie. Can't write a song for toffee, but what a player. If shredding is not your thing I can understand why he is so hated.

Oddyssey actually featured quite some good songs. But then again that is the only album where there are real songs on it and he isn't as masturbatory as on his other albums. But I love his playing and what he did for neo-classical guitar shredding.

Seconded. I love his nice distinct tone on Punishment For Decadence.

Now are we basing this on pure skill, or skill, passion and a myriad of other things. I will go with the latter

I dont know if I posted or not already but Ihsahn is my favorite. After looking through Emperor's tab book, its a lot easier to appreciate how complex some of their music is. Its very challenging to play, but it really blends in with the music and knowing that, then seeing him play flawlessly live is pure talent. Plus his solo project Ihsahn is amazing, huge departure from Emperor but I guess every growing musician needs one.
