I'll start by pasting my last message in the old thread:
I saw Behemoth, Kataklysm, Aborted and Lyfthrasyr on Sunday.
As I may write a report about this one, I won't say much. Just that Kataklysm, and above all Behemoth, were amazing. Really. Absolutely amazing. I've been blown away, even if it was the third time this year I was seeing Behemoth live (after the No Mercy fest and the Hellfest). But, as headliners, they are even better.
Ok, I'll just give you the setlists of the last two bands, for those who care
Setlist Kataklysm:
Like Angels (Weeping The Dark)
Let Them Burn
Ambassador Of Pain
The Resurrected
Crippled & Broken
Serenity In Fire
1999:6661:2000
Where The Enemy Sleeps...
Beyond Salvation
As I Slither
Face The Face Of War
Manipulator Of Souls
In Shadows And Dust
Setlist Behemoth:
Rome 64 C.E.
Slaying The Prophets Of Isa
Antichristian Phenomenon
Demigod
From The Pagan Vastlands
Prometherion
Conquer All
Christgrinding Avenue
Drum Solo
Slaves Shall Serve
As Above So Below
Summoning Of the Ancient Gods
Christians To The Lions
Decade Of Therion
Chant For Eschaton 2000
Encore:
I Got Erection (Turbonegro cover)
To reply to another post in the old thread, both bands played approximately 75 minutes.
Next to come is Enslaved and Keep Of Kalessin tomorrow

Nova Rock Festival in Austria and it was absolutely great! The last band I've seen there was Machine HEad and they fuckin kicked ass! Incredible setlist, they really seemed to have a lot of fun to play there! and the atmosphere, although it was arctic cold, was awesome!

I saw Skyclad on Friday and for anyone who loves folk metal it was a real treat. They played about an hour or just over at Newcastle college and then down at a Polish pub for.. I can't remeber how long cause they played ages! It was brilliant though if you ever get the chance to see them you should do! They all looked so happy to be playing and they were funny and very interactive and took loads of requests and afterwards they hung around to talk to people and have a drink and stuff it was a really great night/morning. Especially for £2! Was definatly worth the outrageous journey there and back

I saw Faith No More on June 10 at Brixton Academy and again at Download on June 12 and both shows were awesome. For a band that haven't played together in 12 years it was like they never broke up. I'd seen Mike Patton with Peeping Tom, Tomahawk and Fantomas but never with FNM, who are one of my all time fave bands. At the Brixton gig they played for 2 hours and at Download 1hr 45mins. I've posted the Brixton set list in the event thread. The Download set list was pretty much the same but ad Ashes to Ashes and We Care A Lot. Two of the best gigs I have been to in years, absolutely fucking brillant.

Just saw Quo Vadis a few weeks ago at Sonar in Baltimore, MD. There were only like about 30 people there, but it was an amazing show nonetheless... after all, it's Quo Vadis. They're insanely talented. I never knew there could be such a successful wall of death with so few people either! Probably going to Mayhem Fest at Nissan Pavilion August 9th, even though I only want to see Slayer, Job For A Cowboy, and All That Remains. And I already have GREAT pavilion seats for Judas Priest August 22nd at Merriweather Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Can't wait for that one!

SAXON & LITA FORD @ Rockwave fest (Athens) What can I say about SAXON?? Feels so GREAT to see them live!! Every single moment of their show was MONUMENTAL! Lita was cool too! She even did the classic metal ballad 'If I Close My Eyes For Ever' and reminded it me of my youth!! Also saw Slipknot the same night.... not my cup of... blood (in fact, not at all) but I enjoyed their show!

Summer Slaughter Tour Blackguard good for an opening band, but nothing special or original Decrepit Birth These guys were awesome - even better than when I saw them a couple of years ago. They opened up with a song from Diminishing Between Worlds, played Prelude to the Apocalypse and Condemned to Nothingness, and also played a new song, which sounds great. I talked to the vocalist again and he's such a nice and sincere dude. Plus, I bought a Diminishing Between Worlds shirt from him later that night. Beneath the Massacre After skipping After the Burial, I went and saw these guys perform and again, they were better here than the last two times I saw them. Still, nothing too exciting though, but I was happy to see that they ended with one of my favorite songs by them, Comforting Prejudice, which was surprising. Origin Wow, Mike Flores is the fastest bassist I've ever heard! This was also the second time I saw them and these guys just bring it every time. I pretty much just stared at Mike the entire time lol, but everyone was solid. I really love James' high screams Dying Fetus After skipping Born of Osiris, I got my mosh on for Dying Fetus and I must be out of shape because I barely had stamina for their short set. They opened with Homicidal Retribution, then played a brand new song which is pretty good, and then played Killing on Adrenaline, One Shot One Kill, and closed with Praise the Lord (Opium of the Masses). I talked with Trey and John afterwards and they're all cool dudes. John said he's really happy with the new album and that the production is going to be huge. Winds of Plague, Darkest Hour, Ensiferum Winds of Plague's faggotry was too much for me, and I've seen Darkest Hour about three times already and I don't even really care for their new shit, plus I hate folk metal and I felt no need to stay for Ensiferum, so I skipped and went to a strip club. I managed to catch a few songs from Ensiferum and they were okay, but nothing that really appealed to me. Suffocation This was my fourth time seeing these guys, but goddamn this time they were at their best. They only played songs from Effigy of the Forgotten and Blood Oath so the set was pretty cool, and Frank was fucking hilarious. He talked between every song, as usual, but he kept screaming at people and then cussed out the people who handle the sound quality, then cussed them out again because the green lights on stage were pissing him off, then he talked about yelling at his daughter to go to bed, and on and on hahaah it was fucking hilarious and intense. For Infecting the Crypts, there was the biggest circle pit I've seen since Lamb of God a few years ago, thanks to Frank demanding one. And wow.... it worked - the entire place went crazy and you had no choice but to mosh. Necrophagist Honestly, I'm so tired of these guys. This was about the fifth time seeing them do the same shit, but this time they played a new song! Overall this was really fun and definitely worth the money.

Shit, i just came back from the Manowar gig. apart from a power generator failing resulting in an unplanned half an hour break, 2 failed attempts at Brothers of Metal resulting in the generator failure, and 3-4 minutes of gratuitous bass solo-ing , there was nothing i didn't really expect(now i'm extremely tired), but they put on quite a show, lots of humor, Joey even spoke in Romanian helped by some girl even though he misspelled quite a few words, they played most essential songs, and they were pretty much very good, i liked the fact that they didn't over-stretch the songs with the epic endings and shit, it was nothing really mind blowing but great music to empower you and let out all your frustrations to(right now i'm pretty much at peace emotionally). they said they'll make a Magic Circle Festival in Romania next year(either that or a tour of some sort) and they recorded the show to include it in a future DVD. all in all money well spent, i even got to play the Wii for a bit during one of the supporting bands

Wednesday I went to see priest. It was my first stadium show. The lasers were fan-fucking-tastic. On top of that, Rob's voice is quite evil, though it was tired at first (I think they've been touring for like nine months, sooo...) anyway, I'm happy I got to see them before any of them Dropped dead, with the exception of Ian Hill...who isn't that important imo lol.

06.07.2009 - 12:46 Written by Arian Totalis on 06.07.2009 at 01:15 hahah, yeah, poor Ian still it must be pretty good to rock out and brag about being a member of Priest and getting pussy while having by far the easiest job in the band, i contemplate doing that sometimes . to this day the only times i really clearly heard him during a show were on Rising in the East when he plays some bass fills during Diamonds and Rust and the intro of Revolution. but they weren't touring for nine months, they toured Europe last summer(when i saw them), then again this February/March and took a break before coming to the USA.

Was on Metal Camp this weekend, went to see; - Death Angel - great show, they really kicked ass, I only missed 5 Steps Of Freddom cause I luv that song - Testament - they kicked ass! - Sodom - as well... Awesome show! - Hollenthon - really wanted to see them, I only missed songs from Domus Mundi - Satyricon - perfect as always, great setlist, great performance, great Satyr I just luv this dude, I think he has the most awesome stage performance, great charisma, the way he talks to the public... Extravaganza! - Amon Amarth - epic, it was f*cking epic!!! - Dimmu Borgir - better than the first time I saw them, mostly due to the sound and bigger stage that enabled them more movement. A little change in the setlist wouldn't harm though... - Deathstars - ahhh, gotta love them! I only wished they could play longer, but otherwise, I love them cause Whiplasher has this awesome charisma and stage performance, that none does and makes it awesome! - Belphegor - kinda boring.... - Nightwish - wish I really wouldn't have. Never liked Nightwish, I like them even less now. Annete is aweful at singing old songs. - Keep Of Kalessin - a surprise for me, didn't know them before and I was impressed, very good performance.

Sepultura at Stereo Club Klagenfurt! Very cool, this is a very small venue, so we were about 300 people the most? It's been absolutely heavy and I loved to hear all their stuff, even if the Cavalera brothers are long gone!

The last two shows I seen worth mentioning were Summers Laughter and Behemoth. Summers Laughter Suffocation and Dying Fetus both dropped of the Canadian date after I bought my ticket so I was pissed off ass fuck. So I went to the show regardless watched atleast one song from every band but all of them sucked except Origin and Decrepit Birth. Necrophagist was the sloppiest I've seen them so that was disapointing especially since the only thing thats changed about there set in the 3 times I've seen them was they've been worse each time. Beneath the Massacre was drunk as fuck and sloppy as fuck but I have seen them like 12 times already so I didn't care to much. However even though all the bands sucked but 2 Origin was so fucking good I felt I got my money worth, especially as a bassit because Mike Flores blows my mind. Behemoth on the other hand was amazing God Forbid and some local bands opened for them all of which sucked including God Forbid so I just got drunk until Behemoth who played a great 2 hour set which ended with a cover of I got Erection by Turbonegro which was rather hillarious.

Eagle Twin, Earth, Pelican, Sunn O))) Eagle Twin were alright for an opener. They're only comprised of a vocalist/guitarist and drummer, but they were really heavy, but a little boring at times. Earth came on next and was possibly the most boring band I've ever seen live. After two songs, my friend and I left and then came back for Pelican right before they started. They were boring too - they only played new songs, which didn't really go anywhere. Sure, they were heavy, but they lacked any sort of melody or creative hooks, which I think is important for an instrumental band. Lastly, Sunn O))) came on after midnight and were just pretentious overall. Sure there were some cool moments and they actually did everything I had hoped, but it was just so goddamn boring and easy. The show didn't get out til about 2:30 AM. There were probably ten times as many people at this show than when I saw Candlemass a year or so ago.

OKay just got back (actually about two hours ago) from what surely is technical death metal's almost definitive gig... Gnostic, Obscura, Atheist... After tonight I am back on simple doom for another month again Ffs the technical levels displayed were just astonishing... I really can't think of any other band come near the level of these three bands.

10.08.2009 - 07:39 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 10.08.2009 at 02:11 Obscura is fucking great. What tour was this? I like Gnostic too, although I can not find any of their work neither legally nor illegally, their guitar work is great but the lead singer leaves a lot to be desired. But, with regards to other bands that achieve the level of technicality (in the form of death metal) Obscura and Gnostic do (I don't know Athiest well at all), certainly you are forgetting Necrophagist?

10.08.2009 - 11:51 Written by wormdrink414 on 10.08.2009 at 07:39 Gnostic just released their debut on Season Of Mist so it should easily be available. I don't think Necrophagist comes close to the three bands I mentioned cause although technical they really do lack in proper songwriting skills. With Necrophagist it is just being technical for technicalities sake.
