My first list, so I'll just start with something simple: cover versions I've always enjoyed, a lot of them well-known, others not so much.
This list will be a work in progress, I'll try and update once I listen to covers worth listing here.

^ It works, so you will be forgiven.

I'm obviously not into most of these bands (Antimatter is an exception, though) but man, this is an excellent choice of timeless music and I did hardly know more than 50% of these covers.

Stuff I instantly had to check out:

Helloween's cover of Space Oddity
I couldn't believe it's Kiske, it sounds like Bowie himself...
Ahh, Deris from Pink Cream 69! I love that song!

Angtoria - Confide In Me
Kylie - and in partcular this song - is my very secret guilty pleasure. I even still own the single...
Great song, but I still prefer the original. Don't you think it's one of the very few brilliant but gloomy pop songs ever?

Gamma Ray - It's a Sin
Unfortunately, to me this sounds worse than the original - I just don't like Hansen's vocals (anymore). But I do like Graveworm's version of that song, it's kinda entertaining.

Now please go and check Cryptic Carnage's version of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes", Tori Amos' cover of "Enjoy The Silence", The Wounded playing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Celestial Season's interpretation of the Ultravox classic "Vienna" - okay?

thanks for taking your time with this list.

That Gamma Ray cover is so much fun, in fact a lot of metal covers of pop songs are so much fun to listen to.

I will look for the songs you mentioned. I know The Wounded did a cover of Small Town Boy (Bronski Beat) and it was ok. Also Paradise Lost covered it, too. Also ok.

Cryptic Carnage's version of Pink Floyd's High Hopes - ok cover
Tori Amos - Enjoy the Silence - rather "meh", sorry...
The Wounded - Smells Like Teen Spirit - this one was great (and I can't stand the original song anymore )
Celestial Season - Vienna - pretty good.

thanks!
