Coroner is one of my favorite Thrash bands. Their music is just awesome. It contains some of the best riffs I've heard in my entire life. Too bad they aren't up and running anymore.

Maybe ist best, some good albums, what we REAALY CAN enjoy how 10 albums and last 6 are crap

Yeah, I think you're right on this one. The albums Coroner did make, are absolutely awesome, so yeah, I agree.

I like Coroner most. No more color is my favorite. They play really technical. Believer is the only band I haven't heard. I'll check 'em out.

Of all listed, Coroner is the best. There aren't too many bands in this genre to begin with. Deathrow released a few nice albums in the style though.

Totally not technical thrash. Pure unadultered Bay Area thrash. Calling them technical thrash is like calling first couple of Metallica, Testament albums also technical thrash.

I forgot about a band that sure as hell should be mentioned. An underground Irish band called Cursed Earth. Symbiosis is an awesome thrash release of the technical kind. A shame that this band has been forgotten and only released a couple of demos in the early-mid 90s. This band, along with Sindrome, are two of the most unappriciated thrash bands on Earth.

If anyone hasn't heard it and is interested in a download for Symbiosis give me a pm or something and I'll upload.

This is the band by the way:

Toxik should be here especially since not all the slots for options are occupied. I haven't listened to all of these, but some of these bands are really good, so thanks for the thread, Bad English.

Where the f*** is Nevermore. They are technical enough, especially on the last album...just try to play their songs

I voted other, as i consider Codeon a good tech-thrash band.

Technical Thrash means complex structure, breaks and so on. Sure, Jeff Loomis can shred, but that doesn't make Nevermore what is known as Technical metal...

Nevermore's progressive albums aren't really thrash either. More like straight up prog metal with some modern groove metal thrown into it.

Nevermore in their power/thrash days were sooo much better...

I'm not talking about shredding, but about the main riffs in some songs...They're thrash metal riffs, and they're certainly technical...not the stupid-fast aggressive usual riffs that most bands use.

Listen to the song Born, or This Godless Endeavor.

I can't listen to the title track right now, but I would say Born is a song of prog metal. Thrash elements constitute only a minority of the song. From what I've heard, Nevermore has never been a thrash band.

Nevermore were and can still be considered more a thrash band than a progressive metal band imo. A;beit a different sort of slower and more groove laden thrash.

Neither of those Nevermore tracks could be called thrash. They're both from the progressive/groove metal era. Groove metal does not equal thrash metal. Anacrusis was also of a more progressive type but they were still thrash so they apply. Nevermore's power/thrash era wasn't that technical at all really (and that era was a lot better than what they're currently doing, a proof that technical skill does not equal quality).

Of course there is groovy thrash (unfortunately most of that sucks), unfortunately for Nevermore the release that both of these tracks come from just about completely lacks any kind of distinguishable thrash riffing. It's much more groovy progressive metal, since the thras influences were just about all gone on thet album.

I'd like to say that Pantera is thrash some of the time (distinguishable thrash riffing and so on), but at other times they drift away from being thrash (and went into pure groove metal). It depends on the song really, and I still blame them for causing a bunch of good thrash bands to go shit with their groove influence, but I don't think one could go as far as to say they never played thrash. Exhorder was much thrashier than Pantera, and exhorder was actually very good.

Slaughter In The Vatican was great... but The Law was mediocre imo. Even live that same line holds. When touring after Slaughter they were great live... and after The Law mediocre live.

The presence of thrash riffing, or the lack thereof basically.

If you have groovy thrash riffing you have groove thrash (like Slaughter In The Vatican and to some extent Pantera).

If you just have groove riffing (riffs lacking the thrashiness and just focusing on creating a groovy sound) you have groove metal (like Machine Head and to the rest of the extent Pantera).

MH is a bit of a hard example in this case cause Burn My Eyes and to a lesser extent The More Things Change are thrash to groove theah, after that they moved to whatever it was and now pure groove, but those first two and like Isaid especially Burn My Eyes are thrash.

Well, the Machine Head that (according to my experience) people usually know best is the groove machine head, and not the early pseudo thrash Machine Head. I'm very reluctant to call any of their stuff pure thrash though, not even Burn My Eyes. At it's thrashiest it's at Pantera's "sometimes thrash" kind of level.
