So, the reason I joined this forum is because the people seem to be tolerant towards more 'alternative' types and fusions of metal genre, even though the extreme metal is probably most popular kind on this forum. Even so, some of the genres (like the top three) usually take a lot of crap/dislike from one reason or another, it doesn't really matter. So, as tolerant and open minded as we all are, we all have some artists/genres we generally don't like, or truly hate.

So, what's your black sheep of the metal family? (and please no crap about 'not metal'). I can respect and tolerate almost anything, but I guess I dislike Black metal the most (and Pornogrind, if you can call it a genre), but there's really no purpose putting poll for it in this forum. Why do I dislike it? I hardly even gave it a try, but it sounds so soulless and empty to me. That's just my subjective opinion of course.

And yours?

On a sidenote, I wish to add that I find it quite ironic that the genre named POWERmetal is actually the one who has less power in it and by far the softest one when it comes to metal music.
Quite contradictory.

Thrash, Black, Death, Doom, Prog... All those terms kinda describe the music. In this case, then I think the appropriate term for Powermetal would be Cheesemetal.

I never did like metalcore. I'd usually turn it off after a couple of minutes or so, with some exceptions.

I know this is about metal genres but if I'm honest, pop and indie are my two least favourite, because for the most part talent is a not requisite, it seems to be more about image (for pop) and/or clocking in on whatever the current cool sound is (indie). Indie bothers me because the vast majority of songs lack any kind of passion and seem more obsessed with pushing the curly-haired, scarf wearing agenda and pop is nothing more than music produced by nameless studio-jockeys with pretty-faced chavs fronting the actual songs, most of which have no concept of evolution. I'd take any metal subgenre over those two anyway.

I suppose metalcore is probably my least favourite of the metal subgenres though, just because, again, creativty is not a factor in making it big. As long as you can play your instruments and lift a few At The Gates riffs off every now and again you'll probably do quite well. Despite this there are a ton of amazing metalcore bands doing new and interesting things.

Yea, I've got to agree with you both accounts. I was a teenager in the 80's and the image that Hair Metal put on metal in general sucked at the time. Here in the states if something becomes popular it usually sucks or after becoming popular subsequent releases suck. Never was this more true with Hair (Pop) metal. I hate nu-metal and anything with the word core in it. Its sounds like a bunch of pissing and moaning to me. Not the mention the guitar tone usually sucks too.

Couldnt agree more with what you are saying! Just like you I was also a teenager in the (late) 80´s and I really hated all those bands that in my ears wasnt Metal. Also hate anything with "core" in the name.

Deathcore by far. There are the few bands from the "poser/false metal" genres that I actually like, but deathcore is the only genre of metal that I just outright hate.

Deathcore...tried to get into it, but could not find one good Deathcore band. The singing and instruments are just unbearable, no variation in songs, and the lyrics are typically just gore/death. That's just what I think of Deathcore, at least some bands of the genres listed above are listenable.

If only that was true. It really depends on the song, subgenre, etc. If you were to take Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, it's dark and atmospheric, but not really depressing. But if you were to take something like... Obsidian Sea (they're kind of generic Bulgarian doom, I couldn't think of a better example at the moment), it's more depressing.

I have to agree with you on both claims, especially regarding indie. Where I live, hipsters are a-dime-a-dozen, so indie music is pretty popular. I hate that any dueche bag with skinny jeans and a neck beard can get a record deal for strumming three chords and singing about stupid shit.

Now i don't know too much about the image glam metal put on all metal in the 80's(Wasn't born till midish 90's wish i was born earlier) but i know for sure what Nu and Core genres are doing it now, they taken the place of glam metal(witch must have been horrible, i destroyed my radio as soon as W.A.S.P came on),now metalcore it is'int neary as bad as nu metal, but still pretty bad, if it was listien to mwtalcore or die, i would istien, but i would be traumatized, if it is listien to nu metal or die, well Death is just like sleeping without getting up right?, enougth said, i have so meny nu metal CD's that my bro gave me, it sounds like someone scratching a chalk board, i just can't get rid of them i guess i just need to burn them. i swear to god if i ever see anyone from Disturbed, Korn, Slipknot, or any nu metal band walking across the street, i well jump the asshole's, and stick their legs so far up thier ass that they come out thier nostruls,( they won't recongize someone in Corpse Paint)

Okey...first when I saw the threads name I thought "Oh...This is Easy" but when I opened it then I quickly changed my mind...I can't stand Nu-metal stuff...Older Deathcore is fine by my and Some metalcore is okay but I just can't stand the guitars...It's like mosquitos buzzing around you...Also those pig squeals and so...Then again I've never listened to much Hair metal stuff I just won't bother and Symphonic Power metal ain't my deal as well...But then ofcourse there always can be exeptions when it comes to all of these genres I just pointed out...But If I really had to make a choise then I would choose Nu-Metal...I just can't stand that rap/metal stuff...Rap should be Rap and Metal should be Metal...In my opinion Nu-metal is a punch in the face for both genres...Even though I think that rap is crap.

Def Lepord? Sorry...

Def Leppard is not glam metal. Their first two albums are NWOBHM. They played a commercial hard rock after that, but still, I for one would never call them glam metal.

Try Job For A Cowboy, they started as a Deathcore band in the late 2000's, but the new album Ruination is closer to Death Metal than hardcore. The band does still have the hardcore sound to it but it's not overwhellming like Despised Icon, Carnifex, Year of Desolation or Oceano. Give it a listen dude.

I don't think that's a very simple question. I like Disturbed too, in fact, they're my second favorite band. As for death metal, I only prefer some melodic/progressive variants.
