Nile - At The Gate Of Sethu

The album after first listen was a step down from TWTGD. I'll have to give it a few more spins for sure, however, it just didn't capture me the same way that TWTGD at first listen.

Leaked, and I must say, this band from now on is officially out of my favorite list...I always hoped they will return to glory of Black Seeds of Vengeance and Annihilation of the Wicked, but this new Nile is just an non atmospheric over the top complex brain washing...I almost fell asleep half way through and found my self wondering, what happened to this once amazing band?! the way I see it, they don't longer record an album to "picture" some ancient Egyptian stories, to revitalize that haunting atmosphere (the thing they were doing back in the glory days), but now they do it only so they can prove themselves that they can play faster, more precise, hundreds notes per second over the top technical metal ridden of any memorable atmosphere....pity...well, on the good note, this one is better than Ithyphallyc....

Not bad, but I miss the atmosphere that they once invoked in the minds of listeners. A step in the wrong direction, I'd say.
Also, the vocals suck. A pity.

Bland, bland, bland, and most of all... Inexpressive.
Nice technical display as ever. And that's it.
I wasn't hoping for something exceptional, anyway...

I was really looking forward to this one and from what I've heard so far it seems like I will only enjoy half the album.

After several more spins, I think it's a great album...just nowhere near as great as Those whom the Gods detest...in my book.

I don't understand those low ratings. Maybe you all are deaf? This is third best Nile album after BSOV and ITDS. Ofcourse album of the year. Track - "When My Wrath Is Done"... I get goose bumps when i listen to this.

I see only 3 votes under 8, not exactly a whitewash of negativity. Even though there should be far more low votes than that for this steam pile of average.

Not when it comes to metal. It is impossible for the opinion of someone who is 20 years old to hold more credibility than that of someone who's been listening to metal full time for 33 years by now

Revisit his ratings and you'll understand how inaccurate this statement is. Sure he listens to more obscure things and generally doesn't like a lot of mainstream bands, but there are definitely some glaring exceptions to that.

Is it really? "Basically agree with the above. Very bland album, not much more to say really. Yet another let down for 2012. This can go on the heap with Gojira, Meshuggah, Candlemass, Fear Factory Etc." He also said, I'm paraphrasing, that his opinion is somehow more valid because he is old. This is a staff member, seriously? Condescending and pretentious is the reason most other metal review sites turn me off. Now this one is going down the same round. As a staff member i thought he should be more reserved, or at lest a valid argument. Low standards much.

Hotmail is no longer getting things from metal storm. This is why i have a new one also because i see the staff are a bunch of condescending assholes. Yes my mistake, but the point remains the same.
