I voted nu metal to be honest. Although technically I'm voting for alternative metal, because shit like Limp Bizkit doesn't really impress me, but I'd take Disturbed, Mudvayne, and System of a Down over the likes of Suicide Silence.

I can actually sit and listen to LB, where DI just annoy me. Born of Osiris and The Faceless have the same effect - although to be fair The Faceless bore me more than annoy me.

Meh, both genres aren't that great. There are bands from both genres I can't listen to and there are bands that I do like from both. Though this excessive usage of breakdowns in most of the newer deathcore bands these days is quite annoying.

Somehow these two things are not compatible in my head.

Anyways listened to that LB song while indeed better than their later stuff I have to say, Fred is probably the second most annoying vocalist i have EVER heard in my life in ANY genres (first being Nicki Minaj of course).

It was so irritating I suddenly wanted to listen to Waking The Cadaver for relief (OH DA HORROR).

Incredibly easy choice for me, I don't think I like any Deathcore at all (that I can think of) and I grew up listening to nu metal

I started listening to nu and alternative metal before ever getting into death metal, and deathcore... is just fucking stupid to these ears. I'm not saying I give out 9s and 10s to fuckin' LB albums, but where LB gets a 5 or 6, something like Born of Osiris gets a 4 at best. And some shit like Disturbed or Mudvayne can even sap a 7 out of me.

While the above banters were rather light-hearted I am quite serious now, I am curious why is that so.

I am not a huge fan of brutal death metal at all. I kind of like Fleshgod Apocalypse and Hour of Penance, however I don't think those bands are terribly brutal, neither do they carry most very distinguishable elements of brutal death metal as a genre. I also like a few more 'brutal' BDM bands like Defeated Sanity for example but overall I am not very fussed about the style. That is mostly because vocals tend to be very one-sided and soulless (and booooring) but also the music is often so thick that it just flows into an amorphous mass of slamming that lacks any quality that could hold my interest, which is on the long run, rather boring.

For this reason I view <good> deathcore as essentially brutal death metal done right, as those bands can use a similar formula but there is more variety to it, the vocals are much more interesting (good deathcore vocalists can use like three different vocals in one song, growling, screaming and pig sqealing thus further adding to the variety and screams carry much mroe feeling than low growls (most of the time anyways)) and I find the music has way more variety too with shifting between blasting, melodic riffing and breakdowns.

Best example would be Job For A Cowboy. I would not call their later offerings 'brutal' death metal anyways just some sort of modern death metal but, well I kind of like Doom and when they switched from deathcore to modern overproduced death metal, everyone was raving like 'ZOMGZ DEY PLAY REAL MOOSICZ NAO' 'ZOMGZ DEY GOT TALENTED DEY NO USE BERAKDOUNZ UND DA VOCALIST NAO DOES REEL DEAF GRWOLZ NOT DAT GAY ASS SKREAMING SHIATZZZ'.
Well dur, all I heard was that the vocalist stopped using three different vocal styles that made the vocal part of their songs interesting for a monotonous and boring growling and they dropped the adrenaline-rush-inducing shifts between slow breakdowns and fast blasts for mid tempo monotonous and boring riffing. Genesis was a horribly boring album for me. They got better at playing that style later but my point is made. I still don't think they have ever done songs as good as Entombment of a Machine or Entities after Doom.

With the above in mind, I am simply incapable of comprehending why is it that someone would like brutal death metal but think so lowly of essentially the best of deathcore, since no matter how I look at it, the better deathcore bands seem like new and improved BDM bands to me.
