I guess in black metal the majority of bands termed as 'joke bands' are usually crappy nsbm bands from the states claiming they're from eastern Europe (Astrofaes is a good example). However in terms of joke bands I don't think you can go past Velvet Cacoon, whose cover was blown recently, but you probably all already know the story by now....

Why do you consider they are "joke bands"? I think these bands are serious bands, their themes maybe are about racism, nazism etc, of course negative or positive, that depends on personal viewpoint. But did you mean you consider they were "joke bands" because of you dont like their theme. I mean certainly we cant not to like them but calling them " joke bands" is too far?

I still dont get what you mean, firstly did u mean nsbm is national socicalist black metal bands? and secondly when I check Astropheus profile in Metal-archives, they are from Ukraine, Eastern Europe indeed. And most national socialist metal bands are from eastern

Well I'm sure a lot of people already know of Alexi Laiho's punk side project Kylahullut. They sing in Finnish, but it's quite clean they are a joke band nonetheless.

Also, some might be aware of the Dragonforce side project Shadow Warriors that claim to play "evil ninja punk rock". Their lyrics are pretty cheesy too. They sound pretty much like Dragonforce anyway. Quite amusing though.

yeah, NSBM = Naitional Socialist Black Metal. And Astrofaes are from Ukraine, dunno where you got that US thing about them...
A band who really say they're from some blashphemous part of Europe while they really are form the states is Impaled Northern Moonforest. "True Norweigan Black Metal form Sommerville" LOL

I believe he feels that it gives Black Metal a 'bad name', if the whole satanist church-burning thing wasn't enough, now they're also nazis and nationalists, looking down on others of, in their minds, 'inferior complexion', something which is not a choice. Being Christian is at least more of one, so being anti-christian can be more easily condoned, choosing to be Jewish or Black is impossible....

I think it's totally untrve. It is National-Socialist Black Metal, making its lyrics and adepts philantropic to some extent. It also qualifies for the "Stupid names for genres" thread, since it's a name conjured from lyrical themes. Furthermore, NSism is an ideology and, as far as I'm concerned, ideologys [aspecially socio-political] should have nothing to do with BM.

It should be called "Black Metal with premature lyrics"

but don't forget, that the music is important, not the lyrical themes, and certenly not the idologies. as long as the music is good, and a big number of NS bands have great music, nothing else should matter.

maybe, but how many NSBM bands do you know who are helping the Black Metal scene stay trve?

I wonder how people would react if a number of famous Death Metal acts started telling us to praise George W. Bush? I know some Death Metal bands include general politics in their lyrics, but don't you think that metal shouldn't be the medium for such messages?

I agree that there is no way that they could possibly take their image seriously, but their music is beyond anything that you could ever hope to produce.

Moving on to other 'proper' bands, DragonForce can't be serious either, let alone Shadow Warriors. Venom were never serious either, they just did it for a laugh.

Impaled Northern Moonforest have already been mentioned, as have Nanowar and Massacration, but I don't think Amoebic Dysentery have. Their entire lyrical focus is foecal matter, aka SHIT. Mind you, they are grindcore, and I can't take any grindcore seriously...

And how could we forget Dethklok?!

Uhh there was this local black metal band from around where I lived a while back. I can't remeber what they weere called but they had these really brutal as names but the lyrrics were all piss takes. like one song was about Ronald McDonald

Massacration! Haha, if you listen to these guys, you will get a good laugh. Most of their songs talk about how metal they are and what things they do that make them so metal. Hilarious. Then the Techno Metal song at the very end of the CD...classic!

Listen to Massacration. You'll be surprised by how good the music actually is, but in tears from laughter when you hear the absurd lyrics and how seriously he delivers them.
