Did you ever wonder how to make music that is epic and powerful without use of any keyboards, orchestra or samples? Well, if you do not know the answer, you should probably ask Primordial. They certainly managed to achieve that.

Primordial never released an album that would be rated less than amazing, and they still follow this trend with their latest called To The Nameless Dead. As I already mentioned, the first thing that came to my mind when I listened to this album was: "This is what I call "epic" metal!" Album has an amazing beginning with song Empire Falls (which is in my opinion one of the best Primordial have ever done) and all the others that follow are also great of course. Here we have again an outstanding vocal performance from Nemtheanga which sings with such passion that only few vocalists really could. His vocal work is always brilliant, no matter if he sings clean parts or he does harsh vocals. Other members are extremely "well-trained" too, especially the drummer which brings even greater epic feel to the album with his very varied and precise drumming. Album is produced and written as it should be, songs are not only very well composed but also have great lyrics which are written of course by Nemtheanga. Most of them begins with slow intros and then slowly evolve into great, timeless, epic masterpieces.

Epic black metal
Nov 25, 2017
So yesterday yours truly celebrated two big events: My not-so-young ass turned 25 and one of the modern classics in black metal turned a full decade!
With its' massive riffs, tasteful drumming, and let's not even start with the unique and thundering vocals of Mr. Nemtheanga... To The Nameless Dead is an album you cannot miss.

#StaffPickThisAlbumForIts10thAnniversary

Easy to remember. The 24/11 is my birthday.
Fun fact: My copy of this album is gathering quite some dust. I haven't heard the album in its entirety because I keep looking for the right moment. Plus... I got many other albums I bought which remain unplayed, so it's in a queue.

~ Are our bones not dust?
Is our blood not poison?
On my knees in the black light
Praying for salvation, bitter redemption
So throw your dice and cast your shadow
You may look away
But your children will not... ~

Seriously, almost lost interest in metal, but this is one album that change my mind. This is cool folk metal album without using traditional folk instrument, folk melodies scales is the key.

This comment is for you, nikarg.
You asked me to remind you what a real masterpiece sounds like.
This is what a real masterpiece sounds like IMO.
Again, I just saw that I have never commented here -- probably because I thought its briliance was common sense.
Empire falls, Heathen tribes, Rome Burns... that's about as great as it gets, folks.

I think I'm in the minority in saying I wouldn't call this either Black Metal or Folk Metal - to me, it sounds more like Doom Metal with hints of Mastodon-esque Stoner riffs/vocals.

8.1/10 for me.

This album is a true epic, folk masterpiece! The music has a rhythm that sounds like Celtic tribal warfare, especially the drumming, in particular on the opening to "As Rome Burns". There is some stunning, epic guitar riffs, aswel that builds up a great atmosphere.

He is also one hell of a passionate vocalist, and his lyrics are some of the most meaningful and poetic lyrics I've heard in metal, he has done Irish metal proud with thus one
I admire every song on this fine album but, "As Rome Burns", "Heathen Tribes", and "Empire Falls" really stood out.

This album has grown on me more and more over the years, and I can't help but revist this masterpiece every once in a while, it is proberbly in my all time top 10.
