Slayer and Kreator, both bands have similar qualities in music. Ive also heard before that Kreator is a German version of Slayer now that may be ture in some cases but prpbably not all. This is a tough question for me because both bands are two of my very favorite bands but i will have to go with Slayer. One reason is because they stuck to their thrash roots all through their career and i like all of their albums not one of them is bad in my opinion, and there are some albums by Kreator that are just okay. What do you guys think?

It's funny how it seems that mostly European dudes are picking Kreator and State side guys are picking Slayer.

Demographic much?

Slayer all the way. Most overrated thrash is imo German thrash. Europe didn't have that many good thrash bands at all back then and still to this day. Worst country of course being England with only Sabbat being great and Onslaught being okay.
American thrash all the way.

I grew up with thrash in the early Eighties, an German thrash always came across as a poor attempt at musicanship to me, trying to ride the waves of popularity of American thrash but dismally failing due to their incapability to properly play it.

Back then European/German thrash was mostly laughed at as being a poor joke, by most people into thrash in Europe. Bands such as Destruction, Sodom, Kreator were only more or less popular in Germany back then. And the worst of the three of course being the horrendous Sodom ( sounds like Zo Dom in Dutch which means So Stupid )

Come on Marcel, we all know you are an US-lover for the sake of it

Kreator for me. After Seasons...my love for Slayer was over. That's 'till 1994.
Kreator's output is excellent from '85 'till '92 and from 2001 'till 2047!

Slayer live is a must though.

Of the most recent albums from these two bands, I prefer Kreator's. But over time I rate these two bands about the same - they both have high points and low points and both do pretty well out of the final analysis.

Reign in Blood is a sufficient reason for me to vote in favor of Slayer ( even though their newer work is silly compared to the "old" stuff).

I am going to go for Kreator purely because I prefer Coma of Souls and Pleasure to Kill over any Slayer album, But Slayer beats them as far as influence and impact on the metal world goes.

Its funny. I think Kreator are a much more varied and interesting band. I'll even say this: I think Mille has written the most intelligent and violent lyrics in thrash metal. Plus they experimented more than Slayer, and really changed over the years. And still..I clicked Slayer anyway Out of instinct maybe? I guess Reign in Blood is "the" thrash metal album, since it connects many(many) metalheads! Mike Patton has summed this up pretty well in this 7 seconds clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vQe4ym-ixQ

Violent? maybe but nowhere near the most intelligent, That would be Martin Walkyier without a doubt.

Slayer, 100%. Kreator is pretty good, but really, Reign in Blood was the pinnacle of the genre itself for me, hands down this one goes to Slayer.

Well now that I've seen both bands live its a tough call. They both put on a righteous show musically. Slayer however didn't seem as interactive with the crowd I guess you could say. After their set Tom said thank you and goodnight. That was it, nothing more. Mille however did way more talking and waved the flag of hate at the end. Both bands being some of my very favorite bands its hard, I'm going with them being equally good.

Kreator.

Kreator has better vocals, better guitar solos and more variation.

Slayers solos are pretty much only random noise

Easy question, Kreator by a mile, as good as all of their albums are classics or semi-classics. They made pure thrash inspiring later death/black metal, later industrial/gothic metal and turned back to thrash with classics. Slayer are not as artistic.

Phantom Antichrist is way more innvovative and consistent than all their albums after and before Seasons In The Abyss.

Mille Petrozza is probably the best Thrash Metal songwriter ever, even nowadays. Kerry King, however, sucks nowadays; always writing the same random shit, save the lyrics. Besides, Kreator NEVER made a bad album, even in the 90's, when they went experimental.

Agreed, except for one thing which is Kreator's 90's period. Obviously it's not their best, some people like it others don't. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of those few albums but i've always said that kreator are my favorite thrash band so yes in my opinion they are superior to slayer, especially nowadays (even though the american thrash scene in general is much better than the german...but then again that's a totally different topic)

Slayer made great albums in the nineties. But to me they have all a charme of Forest Gump. Some songs very good, others very boring. others boring and a repetition.

listening to kreator you know exactly the next album will be great-
They know what they are doing and they always evolute.
I dont see that reign in blood is better than Pleasure to kill.

i see no Slayer Album that comes close to Enemy of god or Phantom Antichrist. This is a level Slayer will never reach.

For me no question: Kreator!

I also went with Kreator simply becasue I prefer their music much more. Phantom Antichrist is a masterpeiece and really got me into the band more thatn i already had.
