well, we know people like to throw random things in when they decide to reissue an album with a european, japanese or just plain simple bonus track, just to make loads of cash so generally, these are more commercial or just plain bad.
but for me the exceptions are:
nightwish-sleeping sun(wtf??? how can they think not to put this on the oceanborn cd?? it's probably their best ballad ever, and that's saying a mouthful, and the song below is probably their best "heavy" song, and that's not saying much lol but it fucking delivers)
nightwish-nightquest. this is just brilliant, a fucking heavy riff, great piano solo, and it kind of reminds me of priest's electric eye in a way..

nostradameus-scream of anger
hammerfall-detroit rock city
both are covers, both are just fucking awesome. why oh why didn't hammerfall just forget the other stuff, that song is so awesome i didn't even hear the other bonus tracks and i can surely say it's probably the best one.

judas priest-hellbent for leather(79): let's see now: priest+hellbent for leather+1979+live+unleashed in the east+rob FUCKING halford+tipton and downing=

out of the list, i choose sleeping sun.

Possibly Eternal Light by Dark Empire. It's one of my favorite instrumental tracks, right up there with Metallica's Orion and other milestones.

Man, if we're talking Death I'm saying their cover of God of Thunder was really better. Not that they did Painkiller badly, just such a smart choice with God of Thunder and it sounds like a perfect mixture of two genres that are miles apart.

Also on a side note that song proves that KISS can actually be hella epic sometimes, not just singing about partying and rocking/rolling!

so you don't know what a "cover version" is...

A "cover (version)" is a new version/performance/recording of a previously released song by another artist; so Painkiller is a Judas Priest song but Death did their own version of it.

Death - Painkiller
just an outstanding piece of work

lol, i didn't think of this one, but yes the death version of Painkiller is outstanding.

Another I was going to suggest, Trivium - Master of Puppets (I'm not normally a huge Trivium fan, but they are decent enough, but they did an extroardinary cover of this song as a bonus track)
Also another that I really enjoyed... Edenbridge - On Sacred Ground (A very nice melodic piece on the end of Shine)

Opeth's "Derelict Herds" from Watershed is a great song, which is no worth than any other song on the album. Their covers of "Bridge Of Sighs" and "Den Ständiga Resan" are amazing as well. Three amazing bonus tracks on one album, that's unprecedented.

On the Edenbridge album the grand design, they hand a bonus track at the end called Empire of The Sun which is an instrumental. Lanvall's guitar work is stunning and beautifully atmospheric.

Accept wins this one for me with Time Machine off BOTN. Seriously, how is that not included in the original tracklist?
I thought Land of the Free would be good. I expected a sick version "IN THE LAND... OF THE FREE AND THE HOME... OF THE BRAVE!" screamed by Tornillo. I was disappointed.
