Okay we had a thread about this amazing band before all the threads got deleted, so I think its time for a new one, especially because they are about to release their new album Ashes Against The Grain. I cant remember when it will be released but I think it was August 8th or something. For those who dont know Agalloch, they are very hard to categorize but ill say they are a doom metal band, with alot of influences from post rock, gothic and even black metal. You can listen to the track Falling Snow from their upcoming album right here: http://www.theendrecords.com/label/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=38

Listen to The Mantle, and you will understand what im talking about, words cannot descbribe my love for that album.

Ive heard the new album is already leaked, if anyone's got it, and wanna share just PM me, would be pretty cool, cause I just cant wait! Ill buy it when it comes out, no doubt about that, but im just so desperate.

Cover and tracklist:

01. Limbs
02. Falling Snow
03. This White Mountain on Which You Will Die
04. Fire Above, Ice Below
05. Not unlike the Waves
06. Our Fortress Is Burning... I
07. Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds
08. Our Fortress Is Burning... III - The Grain

@noks: Well said, I agree completely.

Awesome music. I'm definitely going to buy The Mantle soon.. Maybe Pale Folklore later. Although all three of them are good, The Mantle is the superior in my opinion.

EDIT: Seems that the European release of Ashes Against The Grain has a different cover (which I prefer, btw) from the US version:

After the success of their album "the mantle" Agalloch have created a new magic album, because magic is the atmosphere that they create in thieir tracks. Wonderful. Limbs seems like walking on the rain but don't fell it falling on you

Certainly this is one of my 2006's favourites and I appreciate Agalloch very much for they did not change their musical style into something worse, just like many bands do nowadays. Ashes against the Grain follows very well their previous "The Mantle", even though is more dirrected to ambiental atmosphere just like in NEST(very good band, which had a beautiful split with Agalloch ) music. I read somewhere that Agalloch plays forest metal; of course it doesn't exist, but I liked it and found very closed to the truth. The highlights I can recognize are Falling Snow and Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds.

I very much like this band. Just dicovered them actually. My overall impression is that "The Mantle" and "Ashes Against the Grain" are their coolest albums. Definitely going to buy an album or two from this band in due time

My friend gave me some mp3 of them and after a week i manged to listen to every albums they have. I was impressed by their originality . I never thought that dark/doom metal ( if this is defined as their style ).have this kind of music. I usally preferred symphonic power metal . Their album " The Mantle" is just awesome. Even thier last album is great. It have passed 3wks till i come across this band and from that time i never stoped playing thier songs.

Hmmm I like this band

BNR says ''Hailing from Oregon, and with ties to fellow The End artists Sculptured, Agalloch have a real winner on their hands with Pale Folklore, a sort of laidback, atmospheric post-black metal album, if that makes sense. Others have pointed to bands such as Opeth (the quieter moments) or mid-period Katatonia as sound-alikes, and to a point these comparisons are valid, as Agalloch shares the former's tendency for drawn-out compositions and the latter's general moodiness. But these are merely vague reference points, as Agalloch has crafted a unique and original style, blending mostly harsh semi-black vocals, acoustic passages, thoughtful lyrics, and a general feeling of darkness and melancholy that is just plain cool to listen to.

Following a pre-Folklore EP of material released as Of Stone, Wind And Pillor, the band's second album, The Mantle, was released in 2002. Somewhat more laidback and mellow than Folklore, but otherwise retaining much of the moodiness and flow from that album, The Mantle is a fine followup from a band who still have untapped potential to explore. An excellent band.

I just listening them in myspace and watching there video

The first album I heard for Agalloch was "The Mantle" back in 2002 when it was released, it was an amazing experience! I can't dare to listen to that album again! I am afraid that it will lose its -god sent- flavor! When I played it the first time! OH MY GOD!! I couldn't stop or pause it! I couldn't hear it as single songs!! The whole album should be played completely if i wanted to hear a song, from the beggining to the end, even the song was the last one!! Thier music is a combination of opeth and katatonia, with some touches from thier own creativity.

After that I started collecting the other releases. and I aint regret any time or money i spent on searching for anything related to this amazing band!

"Pale folklore" was as I expected it , great , tough, and undescribable! so as the other releases..

NOTE: If you want all the pleasure when you are listening to Agalloch, try to listen to them late in a winter night , when the rain is heavily falling , setting in your room alone, lights off, and windows open wide!!!

I just got into this band recently, and they have absolutely floored me. I'm going to pre-order and order The White and Ashes Against The Grain sometime this week or next, because what I've heard on their Myspace is incredible. If I were to sum up their sound in one word, it would be autumnal. Especially on Ashes, their entire sound seems perfectly formed for walking through a wood, with leaves falling all around, and nothing else around for miles. Simply breathtaking.

This band is simply amazing! I have showed my friends this band, and none of them had a problem with it. Theres something about this band that makes you feel depressed in a good way.

I heard this band a while ago on Black Metal Radio and then I bought The Mantle. I was put off at first though because the song I heard from them was a lot more aggressive and BM sounding, but for some reason I've had an urge to get into more chilled out stuff with acoustics and clean guitars... so I'm gonna give them another try.

Do. Definitely do. Approach them with an open mind. Ideally, listen to them while walking in the country, if you can, and try and do it without any other distractions. You will find that their music fits wonderfully with wintry weather, especially The Mantle.

They really do have their own style. I don't see much metal with acoustic guitars. Our Fortress is Burning 2: Bloodbirds is great (discovered them through this song) and falling snow are my favorites so far along with As embers dres the sky

Somehow, I didn't discover this band until somewhat recently. They are phenomenal. Never has a band approached my 'top 10 bands of all time' list so quickly.

I am impressed that they sound the way they do, being an American band. In my opinion, they have a very European sound.

It didn't take any time for any of their works to grow on me, I loved them all instantly, and quickly pre-ordered The White (EP).

In my humble opinion, they are the best band in America right now. Yes, that's a lofty statement.

For sure this band is one of the best band in USA . Unique sound and music arrangments makes them a sound at their own. I love them and i too pre-order the new white ep.

The new track posted in myspace is horrible... what a boring, uninspired acoustic shit.

Perhaps I'm just partial to Agalloch, but I quite enjoyed it. It's a great take on a very minimalistic song structure, with basic piano lines, guitar chords, and ethereal vocals. A fine piece of easy listening, albeit a bit repetitive.

My thoughts exactly. I thought it was a very nice song. The simplistic piano in the background with the guitar chords sounds beautiful. Slightly repetitive, but I really love that piano line.
