A few of my favorites. A lot of others have said Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody and Symphony X. Not long compared to others, but over 10 minutes so here they are.

Avantasia (Metal Opera Pt. II) - "Seven Angels" 14:16
Iron Maiden (Powerslave) - "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" 13:34
Nightwish (Dark Passion Play) - "Poet and the Pendulum" 13:54

omg... Manowar - Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts (28:36)
thats just way to long for a song :p

I can think of some Symphony X songs exceeding 20 minutes, Maiden's Rime Of The Ancient Marriner with almost 14, and of Serbian band Tornado, instrumental called Heavy Metal Symphony 19 minutes.

Truly monolithic Longest songs I personally have. It's amazing how it's possible to keep the music flowing and non-repetitive.
Then again, this is funeral doom, so repetition is a whole nother story

The longest songs that I have ... all of them are very good songs, especially the Odyssey

The longest metal song I heard is Pendulous Skin. From Mastodons newest album Blood mountain.

The song Pendulous Skin is 22:16 minutes.

Mmmm The longest song I heard is of the band [and one of my favorites] Devil Doll.
Mr. Doctor [the genius behind the band] make albums-songs.
Is not a metal band... but it has influences of gothic, and progressive metal wich are very present in the albums...

I enjoy long songs.. but I have to accept that there are some that sucks...

Hmmm... My favourite long song would have to be something from Reverend Bizarre's last album, nearly all of the songs were 10+ minutes. o.O
Welt aus Eis by Paysage d'Hiver... (I need to listen to them again. o.O)
Au Pays Natal/Sol by Rosetta... (They basically had two discs which were meant to be played together... I downloaded one with both combined and am trying to find somewhere to buy the album. o.O)
In the Shadow of our Pale Companion by Agalloch, The Sermon by Ahab, and... That's about it. o.O

I was just listening to it and it is a fantastic song. Beautiful, disturbing, atmospheric, sad...
It's so good I'm actually thinking of finally adding Devil Doll to my favourite bands list.

Sacrilegium is indeed, the "sad" album of Devil Doll, that's why I like it... but if you want the most disturbing shit of the band... "The Girl who was... Death"

That shit is crazy as hell, even more disturbing that many BM bands. And it has a solo of violin that it feels like someone is raping me or something...
a lot of my friends thinks that it's crazy to listen to one long song in my cd player... but hell.. this one is freaking good

I have the originals, hell yeah.. very rare stuff.
Only the fan club can made them, because the first ones are out xD

the longest song i can think of right now is dopesmoker by stoner/doom metal band sleep, which lasts 1 hour, 3 minutes and 29 seconds.

Dreaming: The Romance and Temporary Peace by Anathema get up there in time. Also Black Rose Immortal by Opeth off the Morningrise album is 20 + minutes. Thats whole album is just one long masterpiece, give that a listen//

Duitch sluge dpm band Bunkur has one album ''Bludgeon'' and there are one song ''Bludgeo'' and its 1 hour 05 minutes long

reverend bizarre has a song called they used dark forces/teutonic witch, it's 29 min long

No wasting of time, 60:06 min, all is the music, all is perfect. thats my favorite progressive metal stuff.

Devil Doll The Sacrilege of Fatal Arms is the longest song I've heard so far. 79:01 minutes. Maybe I should mention that this is one of the best albums/songs ever too, also look up The Girl Who Was...Death (66:06), Mr. Doctor (20:17), Eliogabalus (24:44) and Sacrilegium (58:56).
