Not a Sam Neil fan cuz I've barely seen anything with him except the JP series so not sure what his style is or anything but found this movie really well written and directed. I was able to finish the full movie and that alone is a rare thing for me nowadays.

Account deleted Written by 3rdWorld on 29.10.2016 at 16:41 I think my main draw was that it had Sam Neil in actually. He just seems to be in a lot of films I like, although I've only seen a fraction really. But yeah, great film regardless of him really, though he did contribute well.

I need to watch The Omen. I love horrow movies but the problems is that lately I can't enjoy modern horror based on the paranormal as I don't believe it myself. There are obviously a couple of exceptions but most of them are movies that combine the paranormal with a great format (like REC for example). The classic movies do evoke a charming atmosphere that makes me believe the story. Somehow the modern movies look so CLEAN visually speaking. It's hard to describe. But I mean... Insidious? Ehm... Ok, I guess.

The Big Short (2015) Tackles a hugely complex (or just massively muddled) story really effortlessly without having to take it too seriously. I also fucking love Gosling so it was a treat to watch. Steve Carrell was surprisingly found in one of his lesser irritating roles here. Was expecting a lot more Bale scenes really but when he was on screen he really did his job to perfection. The narration and the fast paced storytelling were the highlights for me. Overall definitely love it more than Spotlight even, which is another similar real-world event oriented movie from the same year which I watched sometime back.

The Secret Life Of Pets (2016) Illumination Entertainment >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Recent Disney works. They even used a System of a Down song sample in the movie. Also there was Louis fucking CK as the lead voice actor. Sold!

Definitely agreed on it 200% pure kids stuff, no doubt on that. But still way better than the disney renaissance BS that we get these days. Those suck to high heaven imo.

War Dogs (2016) Straining and forcing myself to finish this and haven't managed to do it yet. And couldn't even believe this is a Todd philips movie. Not that he is a comedic legend or anything but he atleast made a couple of funny and enjoyable movies like Hangover part 1 and 2. This just blows. And since Jonah Hill hasn't been utilized well, he's just playing a boring version of himself. Same problem as those Jump street movies. Meh.

12.11.2016 - 15:57 Written by 3rdWorld on 12.11.2016 at 08:49 Watched it yesterday evening before going to see Ortega. War Dogs is quite a good film, tbh. Were you expecting a comedy due to the director and Jonah Hill being in it? Because it is not a comedy and also not intended as such. It is a drama based on a true story.

12.11.2016 - 21:01 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 12.11.2016 at 15:57 Woah. Yes you are right, thought it was a comedy. I usually don't read the premise or plot cause it gives away too much so as this was a known director and had a good cast, I straight up went and saw it expecting a comedy. Will definitely watch the second half of it with this in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

Ted 2 (2015) Intelligence-insulting, brain cell-killing shit. The few comedic parts then and there got overblown and with a totally generic and insanely imbecilic plot and story. Not even Mark Wahlberg had a good part and all of his scenes are totally plastic and unoriginal. What a waste.

Account deleted Written by X-Ray Rod on 29.10.2016 at 23:52 I have basically the same take on horror movies. The new ones just lack the charme and the charisma which some of the older classics had. The roles were also much more authentic so that it indeed makes me believe the story more. Its a shame that nowadays these kind of films feel so predictable. When I watch some of these at home I can at least switch off the tv, but when you're already in the cinema its hard to go when you've paid already 10 fucking euros for them. You're kind of forced to stay.

Trainwreck (2015) Not a big fan of anything or anyone from SNL but this movie was quite good and had quite a bunch of scenes which will really get you lol. Amy Schumer herself wasn't the biggest show stealer but the supporting characters and the celebrity cameos were all brilliant. The guy who played her Dad part was the highlight though and was genuinely enjoyable. Bill Hader did a fine job too with his neat role. Good movie although the overtly happy ending stuck out to me like a sore thumb to me.

So, my wife made me watch the Warcraft movie. I guess if one is familiar with the lore, it isn't the worst thing ever, but for a semi-noob like me, it was a snorefest of gigantic proportions. I didn't understand much about who the characters were (not that they were given any development either way) nor did I care for anything that was happening. It wasn't too bad visually, somewhat cheesy, but in a good way, I'd say. All in all, if anyone's considerding seeing it now that it has been out for what... 6, 7 (8?) months, don't bother unless you're a hardcore WoW nerd. The only positive thing I can say is that it took itself seriously and seemed to have been made with passion. I guess better writers were needed, ones, who know how to make the audience care, even if they don't know the lore.

Saw Arrival and really liked it. In a way it reminded me of Contact only generally just far higher quality and without the cheese (althoughit did have some cheese but was more justified). Guess I can't say an awful lot about it without revealing spoilers. Was really happy and surprised to hear Max Richter's work as the main theme song of the film. His stuff is sublime.

Prisoners (2013) Dennis Villeneuve movie. Very atmospheric, thrilling and suspenseful. Nothing original in the story, nothing original in the writing, nothing original in the acting, nothing original anything but still gives you a fuck of a good watch just because of the awesome direction. Another highlight is definitely Jake Gyllenhaal. Never knew he was capable of such things. A controlled but still aggressive and masterful performance from him.

Yeah defo on my watchlist, gonna watch Sicario now. Seems Villeneuve and Gyllenhaal are teaming up once again for an upcoming movie but not sure if Jake is gonna do a starring role in it. He's announced as a producer as of now.

Sicario is pretty great as well. There are some extremely tense scenes. Pretty much everything I've seen from Villeneuve so far has been of very high quality. Which is why I'm eagerly awaiting Arrival since I love sci fi (and I have heard good things so far). He seems to not limit himself to one particular genre, which is commendable.

Sicario (2015) One fucking thriller of a movie. Johan Johansson's score really builds up and adds to the tension, no wonder he got onboarded for Aronofsky's next venture. Loved how effortless Josh Brolin and Del Toro's performance seemed. Worth repeated watching. The border crossing scene was my absolute favorite though and I can already see many video games stealing and getting inspiration from it.

Lincoln (2012) Quite funny, engaging, more happening and less boring than I thought it would be. Except the weird and slightly high pitched accent of DDL I thought his performance was stellar and perfect. Could've been a bit longer with more war scenes actually but then it would've needed someone else at the helm so for a spielberg drama film it was ok. Never knew James spader was in it and actually enjoyed his scenes a lot eventhough he doesn't speak much and has only a minor role but I personally can never have enough of that guy.
