Rogue One mightn't be too 'kid appropriate', since it was more of a war film in space rather than a space fantasy film. Saw a few kids leaving during it. (might have just been going to the dunny, athough I dinn't notice any coming back)
Jungle Book was really good. Only thing I didn't like there was the size of King Louis.

I'd probably still love to see as a kid. It was definitely darker but the abundance of one liners from the droid, K2 whatsit, was probably designed to balance it out a bit.

Zaph is the best.

And yes dramas aren't any good at all. The last drama I watched in the theatres was maybe..Gone Girl I guess. Yeah and that was just super boring. Last movie I watched in the theatres was The Revenant which was indeed visually magnificent but the story was such duck soup simple stuff that it felt like a slap in the face.

I thought he was a kind of C-3P0/Chewbacca hybrid character. (hey, Chewbacca doesn't bring up a spell check error)

Sully (2016)

Very barely dramatic enough to be a movie or just not shot and acted good enough. Like the lead character himself says in one part of the movie, "they were just doing their job". And Tom Hanks' stone-faced frozen face expression doesn't help at all to engage any better. Only interesting thing was seeing Anna Gunn getting a big movie role in her post-Breaking Bad period and Aaron Eckhart doing a commendable job. Otherwise just deadpan drama.

Rogue One. A good one and a must if you're into the Star Wars film saga. I enjoyed the classical way this film was executed and how it tied in with the old trilogy (the same way episode VIII does.)

Brazil (1985)

Watched it almost a week ago. Probably the best love story and satire film I watched till date. Love the exaggerated satire method a lot really. The first scene at Information Retrieval and the restaurant are my absolute favorites. The satire on women is also very acute. Almost brilliantly written, directed and acted. I didn't even bother about the plot or story and the finished the movie with complete satisfaction. Its only after that when I read interviews that it seemed people had a problem with the thin plot or story, just a weird opinion I'd say. The satire and metaphor are the highlights and it was near-perfect to me. Easily much better than the action oriented 12 Monkeys.

The Zero Theorem (2013)

Could've been a really good satire and end to the trilogy but the core plot seemed muddled and overtly disconnected to me. Even the climax dialogues didn't make any sense to me at all. Not sure if the writing was rushed or if it was just badly written and Gilliam couldn't just maintain the quality of satire here. Also the casting was all around godawful. Best left ignored, wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I like a way how he dealed whit Russian diplomat, blow his brains out, diplomatic passport often is legal to crime, and we cant do anything, person who has nothing to lose, cam deal. Its real, nobody cares,.

Not American ending

The Package
Swede was negative, and wrestler whit not body builer type muscles was good guy, nice one, but again military ppl will laugh to that

Kubo And The Two Strings (2016)
Already tried to watch it once and for some reason didn't like it then so shelved it as it seemed too kiddish or whatever. Gave a watch again recently and managed to finish it. I liked the character arc of the monkey and Matthew McConaughey's performance as the beetle. Good animation and fun to watch but didn't find much depth in it.

Hail Caesar! (2016)
Josh Brolin's character is the weirdest here and I have no idea mostly why he does many things and mainly why he feels such sinned and wants to do confession often. Plot is good but the script is kinda with loose ends and doesn't make sense at the end. The only thing that makes this worth watching is how excellent the performances are from the ensemble cast like those of Channing Tatum, Alden Ehrenreich, George Clooney (to a minor extent), Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and the brilliant Ralph Fiennes. Jonah Hill is totally wasted though and I don't care much for Scarlett Johansson anyway. Formulatic Coen brothers movie that definitely should work as per the papers but feels kinda uninspired in the screen.

Room (2015)
Basically a subdued version of the Fritzl case. Good performances but I'm not sure why it was subdued so much from the real case, both the book and the movie. Classic hollywood case of watering down stuff.

Really really good movie. I've always liked Ray Winstone's macho performances and this is no exception. Kingsley is really interesting too and another one of those mouth-y villain characters, so really loved him. The direction is pretty top-notch too.

I've seen some very good films lately. Not just good stories, but stuff that puts the medium of film to good use.

La grande bellezza (The Great Beauty) - one of the best artsy, primarily aesthetic films I've ever seen. Often style comes at the cost of substance or seems cliché, and I guess that's what people mean by "pretentious". Not so here; I don't remember the last time I've been so completely mesmerized by cinema, from the gorgeous opening and a drawn-out, Felliniesque rave scene all through the credits, floating on the Tiber. The milieus, the camera work, the wardrobe - it's immaculate. I think I actually cried at some point, not because of the story so much as the presentation. If you appreciate beauty (or Rome), you need to see this.

Birdman - certainly a bit of a Hollywood handjob, but I thought it was both hilarious and weighty. The weirdness did not distract or seem heavyhanded.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - a hipster/internet handjob, but the direction is so very good, the deadpan characters are wonderful and the humour is excellent. It did get too action-heavy and rushed toward the end, though. It would have benefited from sparser plotting to give room for character growth. I am glad I haven't read the graphic novel first, because it would probably detract from the experience.

Children of Men - perfectly plotted and paced dystopian thriller. It is especially notable for its long shots where the camera moves with the action, building suspense and a sense of being in the scene with the protagonist. As far as the genre goes, this was one of the best I've seen, surprised there hasn't been more hype about it.

A Single Man - another visually stunning drama. A day in the life of an English professor (Colin Firth) trying to cope with the death of his partner. The story was nice enough, although it didn't quite pull me in and make me care for the characters enough to be a really great piece. I'd watch this mostly for the technique, to be honest, but it was very elegant.

Also saw Toy Story 3 and Singin' in the Rain (yeah, first time). Both of them were really entertaining. Cap America: Civil War was fun enough, nothing notable there.

I was disappointed with Unforgiven: the film was lauded as a classic western, and my film buff brother-in-law recommended it too, but it was a lot of missed potential. Old guys get back in the saddle; best days behind, killing innocent men, women taking action; a blatantly obvious attempt to look at the genre's tropes from a fresh angle, to question them a bit. Too bad it was very superficial and thrown out the window at the first chance for a gunfight. Guy can't even hit a bottle at point-blank range, but quaff some whiskey and it's all good, everyone dies again. No struggle with age when it matters. Oh, and killing your first man is a big deal, so deep! I don't think Clint was capable of handling these issues with the subtletly they would have needed to be anything more than platitudes.

Doctor Strange (2016)

Trippy visuals and nice eye candy. The star-gate like sequence and Dormammu are the highlights. Nothing fresh or bold in the film script or acting, even the exploration of magic through science is very poor and should've explored more deeply and the training period and time in which the lead character assumes all the magic is ridiculous (yeah the eidetic memory doesn't answer it bitches). Formulatic hollywood blockbuster worth a watch only for the visuals.

I've had a good streak of old films. La dolce vita, Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), My Man Godfrey, Arsenic and Old Lace, and His Girl Friday.

The last four were comedies. Godfrey and His Girl Friday were mainly funny for the outrageous characters, but the plots were a little all over the place and they hadn't aged so well. Satire of eccentric aristocracy and journalists, respectively.

Cyrano and Arsenic were both based on stage plays, and it showed in the superior script; really funny movies with excellent performances and really tight plotting/action. I really recommend both, they work perfectly well today. Cyrano was a more traditional, comedic hero, whereas AaOL is a dark comedy that felt very ahead of its time. I imagine Tim Burton and the writers of The Addams Family took some influence.

La dolce vita was nice. Not Fellini's best, but boobs and Italy so hey.

Also saw Sin City. Meh, it was inoffensively OK. I guess it was a good idea to tie together the separate short stories (though not very organically) for a feature film, but it didn't really add anything to the graphic novels.
