In either case, the th is spoken like a t. In the case of pronouncing the ch, it would be pronounced like a k. So either "tonic" or "ktonic".

It's always pronounced as either k-thonic or thonic So not ktonic/tonic Just look it up in the oxford english dictionary And you'll see that it should be pronounced as ˈ(k)θɒnɪk So, the ch in chthonic is not a schwa sound at all. But is actually a voiceless plosive k
