All these bands have been known for being elite both outside and inside metal world, but sometimes they got the wrong idea
Remeber when you were waiting even 3 years for your favorite band's brand new album, you run to the store buy the album (in a higher price cause is hot, you don't even want to wait until it gets cheaper) and back to your home or in your car you put that disc with that smell of new and push "Play" and you say WTF IS THIS??? Did I got a wrong album??, you check the cover and nop your nightmare is not, this albums sucks, well, that happened to me with last Sonata's album, I was about to crash my father's car because of the shock, well, I think you got my point, lets talk about your experience, tell us which album dissappointed you the most and how was your experience. C'mon ppl talk and get back here

It´s probably St. Anger, but disappointment with Metallica´s style began with Load and Reload.

It´s probably St. Anger, but disappointment with Metallica´s style began with Load and Reload.

Maybe for you, but for me the disappointment already started with And Justice For All, and really really hit home with Metallica - Metallica. Now Metallica - Metallica was THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINMENT EVER for me and still is to this day. No single album has let me down as much as that one ever since.

The real Metallica died with Cliff Burton. It's not all bad, though; Metallica and Load still function as gateway albums that help get people into real metal. That's the way it went for me: AC/DC --> Metallica and Load --> old Metallica --> Iron Maiden --> the vast and wonderful world of heavy metal.

None of the bands on that list hold any interest for me, so I'll go with Sirenia - Nine Destinies And A Downfall. I can't think of any others that were comparably disappointing, to me. From two albums of near perfection in their particular style to almost complete garbage in the space of a single release.

St. Anger for me is the biggest let down being Metlalica is my favorite band. Huge let down. hopefully the new cd will bring some light to Metallica and get them back on track
And another huge let down thats not the lsit is Celtic Frost's 1988 album Cold Lake
Pretty Much what killed their career

To be a letdown you need high expectations in the first place. It would have to be a band your already a fan of release a piece of shit album.

Why is Unia in the list?? Unia is one of the best albums of Sonata Arctica!

In fact, I do not dislike Unia either, but I guess that the question is not "what is the crappiest album ever released by your favourite band?" but "what has been the worst letdown for you?". The opening post describes how high selken's expectations were when he bought Unia and how he hated it.

My choice has to be Within Temptation - The Silent Force. To me, Mother Earth has always been a masterpiece of Gothic Metal. It is a very interesting and varied album (the one which got me into that genre): powerful and bombastic but also subtle and tender at many points. While Enter had been more an experiment to merge Sharon's voice with a dark background, I thought that Within Temptation had already found their place in music thanks to their second album. "They can only do better, after having waited four years," I thought when I got The Silent Force as a birthday present. I was obviously so wrong... Two Pop-Rock songs (Stand My Ground, It's the Fear), clumsy drums and guitars here and there, only three good songs (See Who I Am, Jillian (I'd Give My Heart)), Angels): is this what this band has become? They already answered this question when they changed from Gothic Metal to Gothic Rock and released The Heart of Everything, which I despise completely.

I've got a few that are not on the list:

Rocket Ride - Edguy This is too glam to even be glam rock

Load - Metallica It all started with that blasted "Mama Said" After that I could never take this band seriously again. There is no redemption for "Mama Said"

TYR - Black Sabbath This is probably the worst album I have ever heard

The Spaghetti Incident? by Guns 'N Roses How could you have followed up UYI with this? They spared us the "dying" and just showed up "dead".

There are probably others, but these were the biggest letdowns in my opinion.

You do know that The Spaghettig Incident was intended as a fun album to kill the time between UYI and the next full-length studio album and only contains covers, right?

Ive tried explaining that to about every person on the face of the planet, nobody listens. Besides, I still enjoyed it, Duff completely dominated the album which was pretty cool, considering he was more of a punk-rocker at heart and he got to do lead vocals on old punk tunes. 'Raw Power' and 'Attitude' were great. But like you said, it was intended in pretty much the same vein as GnR Lies, just a little something for the fans to snack on until the next album was released.

Yeah, I really enjoy The SPaghetti Incident as well. I enjoy it even more than UYI I & II. The problem with UYI is that it contains a shit lot of filler tracks, had they combined the 2 into 1 full-length it would have been unbeatable.

Yeah I feel the same way, I thought 2 versions of 'Dont Cry' was completely unnecessary. Track like 'Dont Damn Me' 'Bad Apples' and 'The Garden' are usually worthy of hitting the "next" button (despite the Alice Cooper appearance). But then songs like 'Back Off Bitch' and '14 Years' are incredible, if they cut out all the crap you would have been left with one hell of a solid album.

Had to go for 'Are You Dead Yet', goodness me that album was terrible. I bought it the day it came out, being a massive CoB fanboy at that time, and tried long and hard to convince myself that it was good, but one day I just had to face it: the album sucked.

The only diference is that I knew Gothic long before Mother Earth. But this album was such an inspiration for me. It was pure beauty... And then comes Silent Force. WTF was that?? I couldn't believe my ears for months. I tried to get into it, I didn't want to accept such a bad album after a masterpiece like Mother Earth, but eventually I had to face the truth: Within Temptation actually died after the release of Mother Earth.
So my vote goes to 'other': Silent Force - Within Temptation.

it's not a question of worst album, it's a question of biggest let down. there is a sea of difference between the two.

which album fell the most short of your expectations? which did you have high hopes for, only to turn off the cd in disgust before it was halfway done playing?

if you expected and album to be crap, and it was crap, it's hardly a let down, right?

Yes but St. Anger its the Worst Letdown.
Then In Flames worst come in the latest albums. Come Clarity its not bad, but still a Letdown, but not the worst.
Unia its the only album i've herd from Sonata.

Megadeth - Risk for me
I liked Cryptic Writings but OMG !!!! except for Insomnia is album is boring to no end.
I think that Unia and St Anger are clearly as bad, but I didn't expect much from Metallica nor from Sonata anyway.
And Come Clarity didn't really disappoint me at all, however A Sense Of Purpose showed that In Flames lost theirs.

And I'm happy to see that :
Kreator - Endorama 0
because iy's a really good album, even if it's clearly not thrash at all (and even sometimes not metal, but wtf)

What the fuck was wrong with Unia?

There's nothing wrong with Endorama either...

Both disappointed many fans.
Unia (to m at last, and I'm not a Sonata fan) is clearly their worst album, because they did try to do something 'prog' and end up all wrong, neither writing something prog nor heavy nor actual songs either (like Metallica on St A.)
Endorama, as I said above is not thrash, and that's enough for many...

Endorama's a sick album, i'm also glad to see it's a 0.

I voted for Risk; Megadeth had some quality metal albums in the 80s and early 90s, and as it seems they have a pretty large following. It's disapointing to see that they'd forget that and try to sellout with Risk.

Well, since I was a huge fan of Nile some years ago, I was really disappointed by "Ithyphallic". Although already the previous album had shown some marks of stagnation in this band, Ihtyphallic sounded like a boring, uninspired, average death metal album. The future's not looking bright and I would really be surprised if Nile had a potential to reinvent itself.
Then again, by the time "Ithyphallic" was released, I had already lost my interest in Nile. "Black Seeds of Vengeance" is still quite dear for nostalgic reasons because it brought me to more extreme styles of metal. Maybe "Ithyphallic" actually isn't a bad album but I don't really care anymore.

Then there's Ihsahn's solo albums. Both, especially the first are boring and pretentious IMO, nothing worth to get excited about. But I really hoped it would be great because I thought and still do that Ihsahn is a brilliant musician.
I still quite like "Homecoming" from "The Adversary" and "Unhealer" from the second album. At least Ihsahn could put the guest vocals in good use

Besides St.Anger I haven't heard any other albums from the list, so there's nothing to comment about those.
All in all, there haven't been any huge disappointments because I usually don't follow bands' discographies very consistently.

I to agree with Uku, Ithyphallic was the biggest let down for me of 2007. The album felt flat, boring, uninspired, sorry excuse for a Nile album. However, I disagree with Annihilation of the Wicked, that album is a beast. Same with Ihsahn, but I have never really been a fan of the guy to say his albums let me down. I ain't gonna say St. Anger because I have always hated Metallica. And "Are You dead Yet?" may have been disapointing but it was enjoyable for me to listen to. Damn picky bastards.
