Well, before going any further...This is an enthrallingly magical question put in the poll. Here's a tip buddy, if you are by chance looking for a proficient drummer, I can only recommend you someone whose his life's flame extinguished 4 years ago. A big loss to Dies Irae and Poland...The mighty Krzysztof "Doc" Raczkowski. Just listen to "The Beginning of Sin" by Dies Irae and enjoy the magic. It's strange no one mentioned him

I sure have, and I would ask the same thing. There is nothing really notable about his drumming on those albums. It was just somewhat fast, but not interesting. Lars uses many of the same fill patterns over and over, and frankly, the work is not that intricate either. I mean, I know drummers who have learned Master of Puppets by ear.

Yeah... I think Lars is a great drummer... but not anywhere NEAR the best. He does what he does for Metallica. He fits... Which is probably the most important thing for any musician to do in a band.
But honestly... why the hell is Mike Portnoy not on this list?

Oh, and for the record, Nicko McBrain is an OK (at best) drummer on Maiden's albums... but during live shows... He practically fucks up half the songs. He dicks around with stupid, bad sounding fills that ruin great songs.

To me it's a tie between Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Dave Lombardo. Peart and Portnoy simply because of their overall skills, Lombardo 'cuz of "Reign in Blood".

Honestly the one-armed guy from Def Leppard shits over most drummers on your list, including the vastly overrated Lars Ulrich(though i don't really get why people hate on him, he is a mediocre drummer who got really lazy a while ago, that's it), the less overrated Joey Jordison(good but definitely not one of the best drummers out there), and the i-don't-know-what-the-fuck-are-they-doing-there guys from BFMV, Amon Amarth and Nicko McBrain. wtf?? i love Maiden, BFMV and AA but they have by no means excellent drummers.
Mike Portnoy for the most fucked-up time signatures
John Bonham(definitely not as technical as any modern drummer but he had this great feeling and really made the music better, check out the middle part of Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin)
and the fact is, most death metal drummers completely own regular drummers when it comes to most metalheads's standards(speed).
you want speed? check out the guy from Behemoth, not Scott Travis. double bass insanity? <insert brutal death metal band here>, not the guy from Amon Amarth.

Where are really the best drummers? At least not in this list...
Talking about
Robb Reiner (Anvil)
Kirk Arrington (Metal Church)
Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
Frank Ferreira (Helstar)
Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel)
Bill Andrews (Death)
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
Scott Rockenfiled (Queensryche)
... to mention a few
yeah, Gene Hoglan is a fucking beast.

come on man... ulrich doesn't even know to do a nice fill-in... he doesn't even have endurance. i dont remember metallica after the 90's to play 2 fast songs in a live situation. they play only battery and some times the first 1-2 minutes of blackened....
