Technical Death Metal - Atheist
Doom Metal - Candlemass
Progressive Metal - Opeth

Grindcore-influenced, at least. Just pretend I said Carcass

By the way, I vote for a power metal category, for which my choice is Kamelot.

Btw, you seem to be a fan of Dream theater .. why didn't you list them in the 'progressive' category?

Oh, I am. I just think Opeth have been a bit more consistent, and to be honest Dream Theater's been getting worse since 2005.

Amon Amarth aren't really a grindcore band. And Cradle is black metal. They may have released a dm album, but not worth mentioning here really.

Black Metal - Dimmu Borgir
Death Metal - Cradle of Filth
Grindcore - Amon Amarth
Doom Metal - Draconian

You should listen to music before posting a list like this.

Dimmu are not the pinnacle of black metal, they play a rather stale form of sympho-black that hasn't even touched the right level of extremity for almost a decade.

CoF are a generic "extreme" gothic band that haven't released a death metal album since...around the time I was born. They are not by any stretch considered a leading death metal band by anybody, aside from you I suppose.

Such is the case with Amon Amarth - they play melodeath, and haven't touched on grind since they were known as Scum before I was born. And they didn't officially release any grind material, so calling them a leader of the genre is just ... stupid.

As for Draconian, there's a lot of debate around whether or not they're doom or gothic. Personally I'd go with the latter, but there are undeniably doom influences; still, calling them a leader in the genre will only get you laughed at by the likes of Marcel, Mr. Doctor, and myself (not that our opinions matter, just sayin').

You are right in all what did you say except that DB isn't the pinnacle of BM and draconian isn't Doom Metal
I started love BM because of them and they 6 years of BM without Sympho.
and draconian isn't Gothic because: Gothic was Doom/Death before they cohere and if we assume that draconian in the west DM must be in the east

Dimmu is not a leading black metal band, end of story. By virtue of their accessibility and popularity and lack of extremity they almost strip the black metal genre of its true meaning. You said it yourself, they helped get you into black metal. That's called a gateway band. Gateway bands are not leaders in their respective genres. A true leader of modern black metal would be Watain, Deathspell Omega, Inquisition, Darkspace...quality black metal that doesn't sully the genre.

Draconian's fluffy doom mixed with the poppy female vocals and overall tame approach (I'm saying this as a fan, keep that in mind) does the same thing to doom as Dimmu does to black. Draconian are a gateway band as well, and even though personally I enjoy their sound, they are not leaders of doom. The only people who think they are usually haven't listened to any real doom or bothered digging beyond Draconian. Warning, Pentagram, Candlemass, Saint Vitus, those are real doom bands. Then you get into the death/doom hybrids like Ataraxie, Mar De Grises (a little progressive/atmospheric), Saturnus (some gothic influence), Evoken (also funeral doom), Ahab (funeral-ish as well), Rapture (for more melodic stuff)...heck, Doom:VS is a more legitimate doom band that Draconian.

^ Literally all those bands are sleep-inducing. You've got the most generic, mid-paced plastic black metal band (modern stuff anyway), the least inventive, stereotypical death metal band of all time, [can't say anything against DT because I don't like prog altogether], and Iced Earth above all other thrash metal bands?

I know this is all about opinion...I just really question some peoples' opinions when it comes to reading lists like that.

I didn't think Carcass were making new music, just touring. Death are obviously done and Emperor since Ihsahn is solo.
