Off the top of my head I can't think of any science fiction films which do that exactly. Perhaps Source Code. I think a cliché plot-device and a cliché film are not necessarily one and same. Though don't misunderstand, I don't regard Edge of Tomorrow as original either.

Yeah Source Code and Moon are amongst the sci-fi favourites of mine the past few years. Source Code is a little schmaltzy at points and has Jake Gyllenhaal in, who I kind of abhor, but even despite that I really liked it. Moon I could never get enough of though. I do love that.

Oh yeah, I also saw Interstellar the other day, which I thought was ok. Felt a little dumbed down though (just like Inception). But yeah. I'll talk about that another time.

Dog Day Afternoon
Good hostage film, more less comedy seems based on real life events.. young Al Pacino ... great film, bank robbery huh you need be able to die because never know how it will end

I wouldn't call Dog Day Afternoon a comedy... granted, there's some levity in the film but if I recall that comes from the situation rather than thematic intentions. I certainly didn't finish the film thinking it was a funny experience. Quite the opposite.

I must say I loved Brazil that I watched it some days ago, if someone have told before that it was somehow Sci-Fi maybe I didn't have much interest in it but I enjoyed every moment of the story that was directed excellently, so would anyone knows any similar movie or at least something close to it ?

Not real comedy, but not same movie about hostages like other , Al and other guy was soft, (BTW I read in real life that guy spend only 5 years in a jail and get 1% each year from movie profets ... nice isn't it)
Still good movie , but his acting in a street and personal matters was more how to put soft, as other hostage films

and does I am only on who thinks 70's SWAT team is one big joke, compare to todays ,I saw it in the I think Sean Connery film about some house and other 70's films, men hardly can climb using roap LOL .... I think if they need snipe as in Captain Philips there would be some sharks and fish less today ....

Taxi Driver is drama and damn good film, I saw it like 2 years ago, nice one, I enjoy it, but Straw Dogs you means 70's or 2011

The one and only original Straw Dogs, the one from the Seventies, of course.
I didn't even know there was a remake from 2011.

I know your rant wasn't really about Lucy but I want to point out that I barely gave that section of the film a mere observation and merely ONE of MANY faults. I won't hate it because of lack of scientific accuracy. Just commented on it (please, I enjoy most sci fi and horror and none of it is logical most of the time). Joe said it better than me: It was terrible through and through and mostly because of terrible acting, dialogue and a very uninteresting plot.. Not to mention the tasteless references to far greater films.

well i know its not the best of Besson's films but i think it was OK movie(i wont call it a shit - that is reserved for Sharkanado 2 and Twilight ).And as i said the rant was not about Lucy.Lucy only reminded me on some videos i watched few days ago where the basic premise was people ranting on how scientifically inaccurate Interstellar,Lucy, and some other sci-fi. movies ,and how that ruined the said films.Than there was a shit ton of comments ,by people stating something like this : "why people keep making unrealistic sci-fi movies" and i was all like "dont you idiots know that fi stands for fantasy ".Anyway all that made me think of this whole geek/nerd is trendy, holly science, internet subculture (is that even exists?) and obscure need for everything to be rationalised and justified.My conclusion was that people really need to relax a bit - watch some JCVD movie,kill few brain cells and quit using science as new form of religion.Beside i dont know does those idiots know that in scientifically realistic universe Star Wars would not exist (basically mightiest paradox for those people ).

Anyway,as for Lucy in particular the main problem i had with it was like it seems like 30 minutes of film was cut out from final cut.That and the unnecessary or poorly executed finale . I do believe that Scarlett Johansson's did a OK job portraying something what we may call god like being (emotionless , instinctual driven ,omnipotent and calculated cold minded).Story was Ok for me ,and i like the part of movie when Lucy ,after she figure out that she is something like Superman, calls her mom and actually shows emotions.its like good philosophical ideas putted there .The ending was bad ,as i said.Maybe its because forced happy end,maybe because unnecessary showdown. Best part of that finale was Lucy's trip to beginning of universe, and shaking hands with Lucy the human ancestor from millions of years ago.Maybe if Luc was given more tan 90 minutes could made a bit better movie,but in the end its still OK movie.

Yeah, this is exactly the part where I can't agree at all. xD Emotionless, omnipotent and cold like a God? To me she looked dull, dumb and slow with a lazy eye trying to look cool and the whole dialogue with the mom is so poorly executed I really have a hard time caring for the character.

I totally agree with you about chilling and wanting to kill some neurones with a movie but I prefer when those movies don't take themselves seriously. This one does, hence why I find it pretentious and bad.

like i said i think that role was executed just fine.Not the best acting out there but fine.Works enough for me.And yes if you do not take it seriously movie is OK to watch.

yeah ,but that is why we got to see Robocop,Terminator,and Total Recall as kids also bunch of sex scenes from random movies .I guess that Serbian Movie had to happen sooner or later.

well not exactly ,just few years back there were no rating system on TVs so basically anything but porn could be aired anytime. Its not just Robocop,Terminator aor Total Recall ,but hell a lot of R and X rated films from around the world. And there was plenty of gore,sex scenes ,obscurity and violence we watched as kids but i recon that we grew up just fine.I think that rating system is a big failure and unnecessary thing .

Not of his best but decent film... his best will be where he was US marchal ... where he trained SEAL to knife fight was good as well.
He has good films, but this wasn't best.
