someone knows what its all about hte wickerman and the white?? heared that there are some connections between this film and the ep i think i have to watch this film right now
Well, the island in The Wicker Man is called Summerisle, which features in several titles on the EP. Additionally, the excerpt at the end of Sowilo Rune is taken from the movie. Sgt. Howie (Edward Woodward) has just gone to speak with Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) in order to obtain permission to investigate the disappearance of Rowan Morrison, a young girl on the island. Out of the window in Summerisle's study, he sees girls jumping naked through the fire. His outrage at this pagan tradition attracts the following lines (classics, in my book):
Summerisle: Now, those children out there...they're jumping through the flames in the hope that the god of the fire will make them fruitful. Really, you can hardly blame them. After all, what girl would not prefer the charm of god to some acne-scarred artisan?
Howie: And you...you encourage them in this?
Summerisle: Actively! It's most important that each new generation...are made aware that here the old gods aren't dead!
Howie: And what of the true god, whose glory, churches and monasteries have been built on these islands for generations past? Now sir, what of him?
Lord Summerisle: He's dead. Can't complain, had his chance and in modern parlance, blew it.
A great dialogue, and I hope to see more references throughout the EP!

All versions of the movie are very mediocre. The idea behind the plot though, is awesome.

Now, whatever your opinion of the original (and you are entitled to your opinion), comparing the Nicholas Cage re-make to the original in any way other than implying that the original is infinitely better is simply sacrilege. I will not accept it.
*ahem*
Anyway, I would heartily recommend that you watch the original, if only to see what a great film it is. As for its relevance to The White...I can't comment, since I haven't heard all the tracks or seen the artwork and lyrics. I'm sure that there are a fair few connections, though, which would be quite simply excellent.

I haven't even seen the one with Nicholas Cage, and I never will. But you're right, I'm sure I shouldn't have mentioned them in the same sentence.

Listening to Agalloch while watching porn makes it so much more classy.
BTW, I listened to The Mantle yesterday and I didn't like it as much as everyone else seems to. I dislike harsh vocals with slow music (with some exceptions), and overall the songs didn't really move me. However, I still really like Ashes Against the Grain.

Have to try that, cause the music alone bores the shit out of me. Which is quite odd, cause it is something I 'should' like.

Awesome, probably, you can buy The Mantle next.
The band never disappoints the fans, looking forward to their new album/EP
However, no one seems to talk about the artwork of the band, it's not made up, its nice, clever interpretation of the things to come while listening to the songs, specially, while listening, i try to corelate the songs/music with the artwork and sometimes i feel nice, most of the times i feel low, the pictures seem to represent the music in a totally different way. Any comments ?

Already have The Mantle in my collection!
I agree that the artwork does tie in well with the music, but I know very little about art/photography so there is not much I can say. I especially enjoy the jacket art for Ashes Against The Grain.

I want to tell you a little story. I managed to miss my bus home today, after school (which was a bitch), and it started raining on me while I was waiting for another bus. I got fairly drenched between that and the half-mile walk home (well...wind-blasted on the walk), but I lived in hope. Not just hope of the hairdryer and radiator, but hope that my copy of Agalloch's 'The White' would arrive, at long last.
Vendlus and Royal Mail didn't let me down, and I saw an oh-so-beautiful brown package on the kitchen table when I squelched through the door.
I'm still not familiar enough with it to comment properly on the EP, but I'm on the second listen now...and I'm simply struck with the crystal-clear beauty of it. The album art perfectly suits the music....this is an EP to listen to on a cold and clear day, with a layer of snow covering the earth. The quotations from The Wicker Man just add to the experience, and the intricate layering of simple harmonies and different instruments (Agalloch's trademark) just makes it absolutely sublime.
I feel honoured to be one of 2000 people to own this.

I think there's supposed to come a 2009 full length release, but date, name and such is yet to be announced. It's certain to be awesome as fuck though.

I agree, I've found it some time ago and it's quite good.
Various songs can be found on the internet. I believe 'The Wind' is free to download and 'The Shadows of the Past' is free to listen, as far as I know.

I heard this band for the first time this evening.
-DC-002- recommended them to me as a good band to get stoned to in the Isis thread. Thank you!
I'm in the right mood to hear this sort of music right now too! I might blaze some weed tonight and see how they sound.

By the way, ive heard that a new Agalloch DVD will be out, before their fourth album will be released. The guy that told me that is pretty close to the band, but I was wondering if anyone can confirm this?
Tracklist should be this:
1) Limbs
2) Falling Snow
3) As Embers Dress The Sky (first half)
4) Dead Winter Days
5) I Am The Wooden Doors
6) In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion
7) Not Unlike The Waves
8) Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds

Portland's Agalloch has issued the following statement about having a ritual item stolen during a show in Milwaukee:
"We had an excellent time in Milwaukee last night and the audience was wonderful. It was a great surprise. However, a very important canine skull was stolen from the stage during 'The Lodge' and we would like to get it back.
"It is a very sentimental piece and we would like to think that the person who grabbed it simply did not consider this. There were a lot of random horns and bones scattered across the front of the stage that perhaps didn't look important or replaceable. This skull is not replaceable!
"If whoever took it would bring it to the Chicago show tonight and would just put it on the stage, all will be forgiven and forgotten. We do not want our memories of these Midwest gigs to be tainted.
"Thank you."
