I think Quorthon (Bathory singer, RIP) has some AWESOME vocals, you guys should listen to him. So fuckin' good.

I don't believe that Anders Frieden "growls." My favorites from that list are Akerfeldt of Opeth and Shuldiner of Death. The vocalist from Lord Gore has some insane growls, and the guys from Nile are pretty good. I'm gonna have to go for the other option, because my favorite growls are from Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Deeds Of Flesh, and Lord Gore.

Yeah, he really does something about it, i've gave my friend from school, witch is totally not into metal, but he ordered one album, because he really enjoyd hes vocals.

IMO I think Nergal has the most powerful scream, not so much on demigod because it was layered too much, but on Zos Kia Cultus and Satanica I think you can decipher his voice the most.

Gossow, is Ok, I like her on Wages of sin and Anthems, but then her voice got all nasty on doomsday and she sounds like that weird troll guy from Lord of the Rings.

Peter Tgatgren and Mikael Aferdeit are probably my favorite vocalists.

I recently started to listen to Opeth and i really love Akerfeldt's growls, it's really strong. So my vote goes for Opeth.

Black metal growls are really my favourites, so raspy and crazy in a way; Gaahl, Shagrath and of course my favourite Mr. Filth.

Both new and old Dark Tranquility. The growl around 3:20 in "...Of Melancholy Burning" send shivers down my spine every single time I hear it. It's imposable not to scream along. The growls on Character however MAKE that album. There is a reason its my favorite album of all time. It oozes atmosphere.

I took other. Kvarforth from Shining, together with Ihsahn and Dead is amazing vocalists.
And that crazy dude from early Betlehem also has incredible vocals.

Voted for Other, Barney Greenway of Napalm Death has the best growls

Mark from Epica has the best growls by my opinion
Actually it's a mix of growls, screams and I don't know what more

My vote for Nile, Well, lots of deep growls but there is variety too, Best, Nile is best in everything.
And of course Zyklon, Secthdamon is amidst the best death metal singers.

I love Tagtrens high pitched screaming, Niles vocals IMO have the best low pitched growls in DM while actually sounding decipherable..

I really think Amon Amarth should have been on the list. I kinda like Norther vocal lines... but like I said ...

Aye, from that list, Opeth handsdown, my favourite dm vocalist apart from Åkerfeldt is Tägtren though, and my favourite bm vocalist is Väänänen of Thyrfing, I love the anger and force he puts into it - just listen to Digerdöden off of Vansinnesvisor.

Well, a "classic" Death Metal lover will tell you that "Osculum Obscenum" is their brightest work, the band changed a lot after that... then Peter Tägtgren took the vocals, and he's a screamer rather than a growler... I personally think "Hypocrisy" is their best album, but is not really Death Metal... it's closer to the Gothemburg sound, although still one of the most original albums I had heard.

Final Chapter is also a great album...

I voted for Death, because I haven't heard anyone growling similar like Chuck.

I should add something else...i said it before and i think i could say it again... : why best growls ?...why not favorite growls...?
Its very relative...best is not exact...its subjective...it depends on many things...
Just say...your favortie growler...its more interesting this way...

Due to the fact that I love in flames, I do think that there's one other vocalist who's growls I prefer over those of Anders Friden: Christian Älvestam (Scar Symmetry). This man can do everything with his voice. He can switch immediatly from growls to screams to clean. unbelievable

personaly my favorite growler is Dez Fafara from DevilDriver he can beat ne one just listen to there new album the fury of our makers hand he is by far the best he can go from a high pitched growl to a low pitched grow and vise versa without losing tone Dez Fafara has alot of talent and he finaly shows it when he starts up DevilDriver if u listend to his Coal Chamber days and u thought he sucked list to him in his DevilDriver band and u will completely change ur mind

I liked the first DD album, I will say that much, he does have a distinct growl but it sounds electronically induced...

i dont think so bc listen to him during his coal chamber days he did the same thing he just does alot more of it now

Yeah how about Barnes and Benton together on "Vomit The Soul",powerful growling,has to be one of the best CC songs to date,surely one of my my personal favs.Also the combo Of Corpsegrinder and Frank Mullen on Suffocation's "Mass Obliteration",does not get any better than that my friend.
