Me personally enjoy almost every metal ballad. Those by Nightwish are great, Iron Maiden (or Bruce Dickinson self) have good ones, but by me is currently winning Manowar with Courage...how about you?

Bathory is "blackened" viking folk metal imo...at least compared to "black folk" of Ensiferum, where i hear almost none black elements except the fact they are using growls

Bathory sure IS black. Listen to the first three albums...yup, they changed style then, but the early stuff is as black as this forum's background.

Of course, but read the rest of the posts before you post. The later albums aren't Black Metal at all.

True. Sorry I didn't read them....I agree, the last album with black metal elements is Blood Fire Death.

Now to the topic.

I would say Iced Earth - Watching Over Me.

But what are the criteria whether a song is HM ballad or not??
I consider Since I've Been Loving You and When a Blind Man Cries blues songs.

1. How many people actually know and dig Toxik?
2. How many people under 40 actually really dig them hahaha

Hehe. Actually, i found them thanks to a thread that i think it was opened by you. Then i found their 2 cds in a store and i bought them together with some more 80's thrash (like Sadus, Whiplash, Forbidden). Lately i have been only listening to speed, thrash and some power from 80's and i'm really enjoying it.

Ontopic: As i said about ballads i'm not really into them. I only remember one more and that would be Pantera - Cemetery Gates (obvious but i like it).

Yes! I glad I'm not the only one that thinks Angel by Priest is an incredible song. man even the diehards hated that one.

IMO the best ballad and one of the best songs in general Beyond the Realms of Death by Judas Priest

Until one day he smiled
It seems as though with pride
the wind kissed him goodbye
And then he died.........

yeah, great song, one day Les told the guys he had an idea for a song and he took an acoustic which was lying around, turned it upside-down(he was left-handed or something) and he started playing the chord arpegio's, the guys said it was great and they started building up from that, that's why it sounds so weird and 'non-priest', at least not like what they made in the 70's. it's also the only song which Les Binks co-wrote with Priest.

Blind Guardian - The Bards Song (In The Forest)

This one is realy one of the greatest one for me too. Especially on the concerts, when the whole croud is singing along, and your skin gets like gooseflesh...than it's just perfect

Given my aversion to all things cheesy in Metal, I'll have to list one of my favorite Death Metal tunes.
Victorious Reign by Hate Eternal has always struck me as somewhat of a ballad. In my definition.
