Am I the only person in the world who actually LIKED St. Anger?

No you're not!

It is my least liked album by Metallica, for a number of reasons, but there is some goodness to be found amidst the terrible production and arrangements.

Strange drums, no solo, nwoahm riffs but theres kinda some catchy riffs that i liked
But talking about main album...

The horrible drum sound and the stupid "no solos" rule is definitely the two things I dislike most about the album. There are some good riffs in there though, and I think with better arrangement and production, the album could have sounded heaps better than it does now.

Am I the only one who thinks the no solos rule was the only good thing about the album? Hell the songs didn't call for any solos so no solos it should be then. Usually Hammett's solos spoil an otherwise good song (case in point being the Death Magnetic album) his solos don't add a thing to the songs, plus he has got to learn to keep his foot OFF the wah wah.

Not really, I really like their stuff from Jester Race to Clayman, after that... nothing... and their last album is EMO, The Chosen Pessimist is a clear example...

i dont understand why people label them being emo or metalcore or whatever..

Well, all I say is allways from my point of view, and the example I gave you is not even metalcore... but that's my opinion.

I chose Sonata's Unia. I was a huge fan because of the first four albums, they are absolute classics. Also Unia has some really good songs (It won't fade, Caleb, for instance), but most of the stuff is just crap. I also got the new album, but I guess the band just doesn't do it for me anymore. However, four great albums, majority of bands never achieve that...

I would say St. Anger was the most disappointing to me. I'm one of the few who really liked Load and ReLoad (as well as their earlier stuff, of course), so when St. Anger came out I was still a big fan of Metallica's current music...that ended very quickly.

But honestly, I think I have yet to experience my biggest letdown yet...I think it might be Wintersun's Time...whenever it comes out

St. Anger made me hate Metallica lol. I kid you not, I will not listen to them anymore.

Latest catamenia album. quite bland without the synths

I went with Kreator - Endorama...
I knew St Anger was bad but expected more from Kreator, I haven't been able to listen to anything else by them since this was such a let down.

I've got more letdowns but the one that comes to mind now is Shades Of God by Paradise Lost.
Not that the album itself sucks, but after Lost Paradise and Gothic I didn't think they would release this stuff.
I expected a mix of their first two releases because I thought Gothic was sort of an experiment.

I can't say that I was dissapointed by St Anger - the ReLoad album was just Load's leftovers (and I do consider load a really good album) and there really was no band recording it,everything was falling appart etc...As for Risk,I guess it is not THAT bad,some songs in it are interesting...Chameleon is maybe the worst Helloween album ever (though Rabbits Don't Come Easy is pretty close) but it followed the rather boring and WAY TO SIMPLE pink bubbles go ape...And I totally dissagree with Endorama being considered a boring album,it is just a well executed change in direction (and has some really good gothic influenced songs in it)....I guess I was mostly dissappointed by Framming Armaggedon - Iced Earth (the glorious burden was not that good but had its momments...this one is a total failure),Octavarium - Dream Theater (I think their last great album was SDOIT)....However my vote goes for A Twist In The Myth by Blind Guardian...Don't take me wrong,I love the band but this album was way below my expectations...It had some great moments,and I still listen to it today but the "blind guardian" felling is not there anymore...

I've probably posted this before, but whatever...here's a refresher...

I don't understand why Unia is on there...that album has a "no fuss-no muss" kind of feel to it...Sonata Arctica get right to the point when you first start listening to it...that guitar riff that starts the album with the fluttering keyboards backing it up? I mean, come on! That is awesome! You can tell that they spend a lot of time on Unia...to say that it is a let down is (in my opinion) pretty ignorant...I think a lot of people were pissed off because they changed from a raw power metal band with pop influences (because they were a pop band beforehand) into a more artistic endeavor...

Yes, I agree with St. Anger being crap...you would've thought St. Anger would be better after watching Some Kind Of Monster and all the emotional bullshit that went into it...on the other hand, maybe not because you could say that all that emotional crap just makes sense that an album so uninspired and unfocused came out of that...

I think the whole point of Some Kind Of Monster was...if a band can go through all of that shit then they can go through anything and that Metallica will be around for a long time...

I had some different opinions about St. Anger before but they've changed...

Completely agree dude....to me Unia is still their best and most diverse album (the latest album is a bit much). Im still pretty shocked at how many people hate Unia I find it very mature and interesting.

I own and adore every single album BEFORE St. Anger.
I remember the day I got St. Anger.
I was all excited, you know that warm feelng when you know good shit is going to happen that day, scraped together some cash. My friend and I drove for a good half an hour to the closest music shop at the time.
Walked in and saw it almost instantly, picked it up, looked at the cover. Big red fist punching down....thought to myself how awesome this is going to be. Bought it and rushed out. My friend was hyping me up. Sat in the car, placed the disc in the player...

First 30 seconds of the first song....not the best, that's ok there are still other songs...actually no they are all the same boring crap.

BIGGEST LETDOWN OF MY LIFE! I felt like I was listening to the same boring song on repeat. I couldn't even concentrate on the songs because I would just get that bored. Went home burnt the CD. Happiest moment of my life.

You were letdown by Korn when you were 8 years old? Or was it later on when you discovered them?

I like to say that Cryptopsy's The Unspoken King is my personal letdown of all time.

But an album that REALLY get on my nerves is Isis's In The Absense Of Truth... the album is not even that bad, but GOD I HATE IT. It was released right after Panapticon (one of my all time favs), I cannot get close to this shit.

A stain in Isis discography to me.

I don't really get why people are hating on In Flames' album Come Clarity. you can't possibly call it a sellout since there already were 2 "sellout" albums before that, and actually CC is a lot more aggressive than those two.

if they have to hate on anything, IF hatorz should hate on Reroute to Remain and maybe Soundtrack, those were the turning point albums when the band got a far more commercial sound.

About 10 years old, I had heard their debut only before that and had liked that (and still do like that particular album) I only listened to a few songs on LIP, I found it mostly annoying sounding.

I will also add that I gained appreciation for Death Cult Armageddon as time went on.

St. Anger all the way. I remember when that album came out and even when I was 13, I realized it sucked.

I actually liked Are You Dead Yet? by Children of Bodom. It's more enjoyable when you think of it as just a catchy more traditional heavy metal based album with the usual CoB keyboards and vocals. It's definitely not as good as their first three albums but I still like it.

As for Chameleon, I'm a bit afraid to listen to it. Aside from having a nice, colorful cover, it sounds REALLY bad from what I've heard. Wikipedia described it as this:

" Instead of taking a heavier approach, the band ventured into new territory, eschewing its signature double-guitar harmonies for synthesizers, horns, acoustic guitars, a children's chorus, country music, grunge, and swing. "

Please tell me this is just typical Wikipedia bullshit. Childrens' chorus? Country music? Horns? SWING? What the hell were they thinking? There's no way that can be true......

I haven't listened to Chameleon for quite a while, I don't remember a children's chorus on it and there's no country music, grunge or swing on it. People diss the album because they went too far from their earlier sound, they played melodic hard rock, pop-rock, acoustic songs. Personally I like it a lot, there's still some good musicianship on it the vocal performance is excellent IMO.
