Time for a super facetious poll. Yeah, I know Mercyful Fate was considered black metal back in the day, but by modern standards they are really no more black metal than Ghost is. I think I'd personally have to go with Ghost.

Since it's basically any band outside black metal that uses black and white face paint, I'll say Mercyful Fate.

Except that Mercyful Fate is 1st wave black metal, no matter what some people try to claim nowadays.

Ghost wear masks (including Papa), so not really corpse paint...

And the title is dumb since none of those claim to play BM, so it's not possible to be "poseur" (as in pretending to be what they are not). Except MF, which Marcel already said to be 1rst wave, so I guess the whole pole is kinda stupid.

EXACTLY!! And no one outside of 1st wave black metal is tr00, either. In fact, false black metal started at Merciful Fate's second show, so if you wanted to hear tr00 br00tulz you should have been at their first jam session ever because it was all downhill from there.

Papa wears corpse paint at least some of the time, it's not just a mask.

You don't know what the word facetious means, do you? Or did you not even read the first post, as that covers the MF point as well?

Gotta hand it to them for their bravery in choosing what could only be described as "super gay" paint before it was considered normal and acceptable. Gene Simmons looks pretty metal, but the rest are just totally 1970s disco bling.

Wait. In what mortuaries or funeral homes are you hanging out in that corpse's faces actually look like King Diamond's, Abbath's, Dagon's, Shagrath's, or any other black metal musician's "corpse" painted face makeup...?

I think what he meant was that bands typically use corpse paint to make their faces look more ghastly - like a skeleton, or a corpse. KISS just happens to be in a weird category in this case. They use the same black/white face makeup used as corpse paint, but it's not done in the same way that most would categorize as "trve" corpse paint.

Well, I voted Mercyful Fate because they were the best in the list, but Mercyful Fate is black metal, and none of them are really poseurs. If you want poseur black metal, check out Nargaroth, the band of some German goth outcast who pretends to be black metal. He says he isn't, but that Black Metal ist Krieg album says if all and it is laughable at best.
