With IIII (and not IV, for a reason), Solbrud have delivered a musical opus of epic proportions, a work of art based on the four elements of nature, with a magnificent cover art that expresses the individuality of each of the four parts of the album. Each band member individually composed the tracks featured in each vinyl side, yet the flow and the cohesion of IIII is exceptional. This is a musical journey that is breathtaking when it is thunderous and intense, and mesmerizing when it gets emotional and reflective. A unique blend of moods, melodies, and atmospheres, all brought together for a 94-minute experience that can only be defined as cathartic.

Now this is what I call black metal! By definition what atmospheric black metal should sound like in my opinion, very diverse and at times a little bit progressive even. But no matter how diverse, progressive or aggressive the songs are they all have one thing in common, and that is atmosphere.

A sorrowful, dark and sadly a little too long journey through the musical universe of Solbrud. That is the only bad thing I have to say about the album, a bit too long for my taste. The first half of the album is magnificent, but by the time I was halfway through the second half, I was not that invested.
It would probably have worked better as two separate releases. But anyways, the songs are great and "Tåge" sends me back to the early days of Norwegian Black Metal especially the Burzum album "Filosofem", while "Sjæleskrig" almost captures a 70's prog rock vibe.

Surely a recommendation for any bm fan here on metal storm.

Truth

This is actually exactly how I feel word for word. A couple of the songs in the second half felt a little meh (So did the third movement of the 20 minute track) but damn that first song is heavenly. I also quite like "Sjæleskrig". The overall atmosphere and production here is great. I think it had the potential to be a masterpiece but didn't quite get there. Still amazing though.

Bad English
Tage Westerlund
Good one, but to long , they should put one CD more metal, other CD more ambient, neofolk. But then again since last friday I had mo many albums this is enjoyable album as and how they pit metal and calmer parts in solid compositions.

Damn good album. I personally liked disc II more than disc I. The starting of Sjæleskrig definitely has Pink Floyd vibes. The last song Postludium is goosebumps inducing.
