i think there is pretty much no competition, even for anyone remotely a fan of Manowar's music, you have to agree that they are the most bombastic, epic, screaming, loudest, truest etc. live band.

Couldn't agree with you more. I've seen them twice (both times in Kaliakra Rock Fest) and it was amazing!!! Manowar is the best live band hands down.

Sabaton. So much energy, so good song.

I saw Sabaton 2 months ago and it was amazing they are great live and the crowd was wild. But I don't like their studio stuff... I went to the show to see Hammerfall, they were awesome too.

I would swear it must be Iron Maiden...such a power and atmosphere during their gig i havent seen so far

I hear ya,

Iron Maiden (1983 - Piece of Mind tour)
Headlined - If you think they have a lot of energy now, you should have seen them then. Far and away, the best live act I've ever experienced. Steve Harris is a god.

Iron Maiden (1982 - Number of the Beast tour)
First saw them as an opening act for the Scorpions (Blackout tour). Maiden put on a hell of show. No offence to Scorpion fans; but, Maiden stole the show.

Absolutely agreed it was on that tour I saw them for the first time and they were on absolute topform back then even better than on the POwerslave tour. And Dickinson's vocals were also by far the best on the Piece Of Mind tour.
Iron Maiden together with PRIME Metallica are the best so-callled big bands I have seen in the 26 years I have been going to gigs now.

Metal is in my blood my friend, just like with yours I guess
And it will never go away. For me it was all Kiss' fault with their disco hit I Was Made For Loving You two years after you
This coming September will be my 30th anniversary of metal.

30 years - awesome! Metal is definitely in my blood as well.

I had 'Dynasty' on 8-track.

Last off-topic remark from me... I still have it on vinyl, same for most Kiss up to and including Killers (so also the four solo albums) plus also Peter Criss - Out Of Control But for nostalgia sake I did buy the three most current dvd boxes spanning their entire career and the second one came with the US and European version of Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park

Haven't had the chance to see a lot of bands I'd like to, but the best I have were Judas Priest on the Painkiller tour and Amon Amarth last fall, thought The Absence get an honourable mention from the same show as Amon Amarth.

Biggest "still kick myself for not going when I had the chance" was missing Maiden on the Powerslave tour.

Believe me they were better on the Piece Of Mind tour.
Btw did you get Annihilator and Pantera on the Painkiller tour as well?

I got Testament (without Skolnick) and Megadeth. It was a great show start to finish, though I would have loved to see Annihilator. I got to do the nostalgia bit when I saw Priest and Testament (this time with Alex) again last year.

I have to say Slayer. Just by the whole energy and madness that comes out in the show. I remember that in 2006, in the Christ Illusion tour, they came to Mexico, and when they were playing Angel Of Death, some crazy ass fucker grabbed a fire extinguisher and fired till it was empty. That show was insanity at its best

I have come to the conclusion that I just can't decide my favourite live band. Every show is a different one (except for Iron Maiden's) with other songs and levels of energy. But I have to say that Deathstars ranks high on my list, all three times they have been outstanding!

Best live SHOW was Kreator for me back in 90 or 91, can't remember the year, so long ago.
Maybe I overhype it, but at that time it really took me. I was only 14 or something an it was one of my first gigs of a "big" group.
Best live BAN- is very har- to tell, I've seen many ban-s playing very nice shows.
Every time I see Napalm -eath I think they're great live. Also Testament, Behemoth ( first time they blew me away ) an Entombe- were highlights for me.

Skeletonwitch by far. They got the crowd more rowdy than any other band I've seen (Municipal Waste was close though). People were stage diving, moshing and crowd surfing constantly. Aside from that, their actual performance was flawless.

From the bands I've seen live, Machine Head definitely kills live. Megadeth, Arch Enemy were really good too. But hands down the best live band I've seen was Judas Priest. It was phenomenal..... There are plenty more bands that I'm still wanting to see live, especially Iron Maiden. I'll probably have to drive to Chicago next time they tour The States, because we hardly get shit here in St. Louis.

Well I saw Gwar at Graspop and I've gotta say they put on the best performance I've ever seen from a live band. That doesn't necessarily mean that they were musically the most talented but in terms of theatrics and just a live experience, they're the best I've ever seen. They even covered me in Osama Bin Laden's blood after decapitating him on stage XD

Lets just assume that is bands that we have seen live. Out of all the bands that i have seen i would say that Megadeth was by far the best live preformance. Danzig, Anthrax, and Slayer are really good as well, but every song Megadeth played sounded excellent and everything went well, plus Dave and the band were extremely crowd friendly and after their preformance they went around the stage and clapped and bowed. Slayer was really good, but they didnt say anything except for "Goodnight".
While Anthrax was playing thier "Caught in a Mosh" song Joey stopped the band and said that they wouldnt continue to play until the mosh pit was better because it was quote "Pretty gay.", and that was fuuny and entertaining. Danzig's guitars were heavily distorted, which is alot different than their studio albums, and i think they sound far better live than they do in the studio. Other bands that ive seen live that are good are the Scorpions, Tesla, and Def Leopard, but Megadeth is probably the best live band, that ive seen at least.
