IIRC Dr. X started a similar topic in the old forum. Anyway, I thought I just as well a start a new one here. With Traditional Doom Metal I mean Sabbath-based bluesy Doom with clean vocals. Thus the thread is meant for bands like for Saint Vitus, Trouble and Candlemass but not My Dying Bride or Katatonia.

Anyway, my favourite Doom Metal bands are the following:
Black Sabbath
Blood Thirsty Demons
Candlemass
Dantesco
Doomsword
Internal Void
Orodruin
Pagan Altar
Pale Divine
Pentagram
Place Of Skulls
Reverend Bizarre
Saint Vitus
Solitude Aeturnus
Spirit Caravan
The Gates Of Slumber
Trouble
Witchcraft
Witchfinder General

Other good Doom bands I listen to are:
Abdullah
Acrimony
Against Nature
Begotten
Bigelf
Blood Farmers
Cathedral
Confessor
Count Raven
Doomshine
Earth Flight
Eight Hands For Kali
Electric Wizard
Forsaken (MLT)
Goatsnake
Grand Magus
Great Coven
Isole
Krux
Leather Nun
L'impero Delle Ombre
Merca
Minotauri
Mood
Penance
Sorcery
Spiritus Mortis
Starchild
The Hidden Hand
The Obsessed
Thunderstorm
Veni Domine
Voodooshock
Wall Of Sleep
Well Of Souls (US)
Witch Mountain
World Below

The list became quite extensive... Anyway, any more Trad. Doomsters around here (besides Dr. X)? And in case, yes, what are your favourites?

Time to revitalize this thread with the news that Griftegard has signed to Ván Records.

Another reason for bumping this thread is of course that Doom Shall Rise - The Return is ONLY a month away. I am really looking forward to that nice and cosy festival

And a thrid reason for posting in this thread is...
Procession - The Cult of Disease was released about a month ago and is totally AWESOME. IMO the new Candlemass will have to be frigging brilliant to be able to surpass this masterpiece of Chilean traditional doom.
Hopefully Proecession are as good live as on album. Well, I will get back on that after Doom Shall Rise.

Just listened to it. Not too good. too much St. Vitus Black Sabbath worship with quite bad vocals.

I like this band

It is impossible to compare the Lamp to Rev Biz. Lyrics are TOTALLY different. The Lamp has huge tongue in cheek Hammer House Of Horrors typically British humour type lyrics whereas the lyrics of Rev Biz come across a lot more serious. Album organisation is totally ddifferent too, Rev Biz has LOOOOONG tracks whereas The Lamp's sngs are under 6 minutes, Artwork is impossible to compare as well. Rev Biz uses existing paintings by well-known artists OUTSIDE the metal realm whereas ALL of The Lamp's artwork is done by Rich Walker (Solstice, Isen Torr, Pagan Altar) and has totally different themes to it.
Musically The Lamp Of Thoth is also totally different to Rev Biz. The Lamp is way more upbeat and all songs are way faster, the vocal delivery is totally different and as English as it can get.

Nope, Place of Skulls is great, so no complaints from me there.

HAha! Yeah, I probably would give their albums about an 8 for Spiritual Relevance. Assuming anyone is interested in my spiritual thoughts for the albums.

HAha! Yeah, I probably would give their albums about an 8 for Spiritual Relevance. Assuming anyone is interested in my spiritual thoughts for the albums.

I would rank their albums as follows
1: The Black Is Never Far
2: Nailed
3: With Visions (my least favourite although it does feature Scott Wino Weinrich and has my fav song by them; Long Lost Grave)

Has anyone else noticed how much the album Burnt Offerings by Iced Earth sounds like Candlemass's debut sometimes? specifically i'm talking about the song Demon's Gate and some other parts from the Candlemass album(that intro is so cheesy and awesome, totally 80s shit, reminds me of Mercyful Fate) and Creator Failed, Burning Oasis, also parts of Diary and Dante's Inferno from Iced Earth's release. i'm not accusing them of ripping off Candlemass but it's interesting how a band that played some kind of dark power thrash metal collides with a band that plays traditional doom metal. also Matt Barlow sounds very similar to Landqvist, especially when it comes to high-pitched screams.

also, could you people recommend me bands that play like Candlemass only with more cheesy/atmospheric synthesizers and more high-pitched/ultra-dramatic vocals?

I missed them when they were over due to work, but heard they were great live, but apparently they have just got a new guitar player.

Only band I've heard that plays Trad Doom that I can enjoy a whole album is The 11th Hour. I've never got a clue as to why I don't like Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Saint Vitus, Electric Wizard & Reverend Bizarre that much, I just find them ok.

Really? Many times I've heard stuff that is thought to be the best shit the genre has to offer, but come up pretty disappointed.
And since I haven't heard much Electric Wizard I couldn't(and I don't think I'll ever can) tell it is Stoner Doom. It is probably the one and only of all the sub-genres of Doom that I can't recognize.

Dopethrone is a total and utter masterpiece. A brilliant mix of stoner with some sludge. A totally suffocating and narcotic album. I think most people have problems with the muffled sound on it which imo helps the suffocating feeling a lot.

Both on cd and ALL three vinyl versions.
It is a great album. For me a contender in the doom category this year. I really liked the previous one but The Ritualist is even better.

Yeah, I also think that the production is the main reason to why some people can't get into the cd. But damn, the production is brilliant! Just listen to the ending of Funeralopolis... It can't get more suffocating than that, those "electronic" vibes in the end were just crazy along with the screams of the singer.

I really can't get into it, is it impossible to enjoy without getting stoned ? j/k No, honestly I really want to get into it, so when do you recommend I listen to it? I mean in what kind of mental state?

One moment I remember very well was a day at school, it was exactly one day after being in an Amusement park, you see... with lots of roller coasters and such. I was so goddamn tired and it was also one of the hottest days. So I was really tired and it was hot. At that moment I was listenting to Dopethrone and the album really make it to a new level you know... I was like super duper "high" in that moment due to the heat and being tired. The vibrations, the HUGE riffs... everything worked perfectly.

I guess that's a very specific example, but I hope you get the idea. Listen to it after a very loooooooooong day XP

Anybody likes the last album by Dawn Of Winter, "The Peacful Dead"? I think that band is brutally underrated even in the traditional doom circles... besides, the album contains which is probably the best doom metal hymn along with Rev Bizarre's "The Godess of Doom": "The Music of Despair", which opens the album greatly.

Dawn Of Winter have also some amazing old demos...
