At first glance, you get the impression that Thorns is one of those bands who have unfortunately fallen just under the radar. But upon further inspection, you find that Thorns (or at least Snorre) are right inside the eye of the Norwegian storm. And Thorns is one of those albums which whip up storms of cataclysmic proportions.

Played this for the first time driving home late at night the other day without checking the names of the tracks. As the music progressed I started thinking about existence, quantum mechanics (namely particles so small and uninfluenced by the effects of space-time/general relativity it could be said they are "Underneath the Universe") and the theory that our universe can come from nothing. I got home and noticed the song titles, needless to say minds were blown... coincidence? or perfectly executed composing?

This is some tasty black metal. Feels almost psychedelic at points.

I might be mad, but I feel certain similarities between this and recent Mayhem albums in terms of atmosphere and mood.
Excellent album anyway

Excellent album anyway

This makes sense, and that's probably why I love both

I just realised that the great album from Thorns I really liked was in fact a compilation. What a dumbass I was. I guess I have to repair an eight years old mistake now.

EDIT: nope. ID3 tags mixed up. I feel less stupid now.

keep saying that, but you have never been able to truly analyze the music in an objective way. That explains why you like those average records.

It's true, some people just don't have the gift of objective analysis like others do

Wow, very cool! The mixture of black metal, dark ambient and industrial is impressive and makes for a very original release (which reminds me of Darkspace in places without being a replica).

One to listen to in a field at night staring at the night sky contemplating existence and the sheer immensity of the universe.

I guess I just like my black metal with good production. First time here, checking out a few songs... I like the compositions and the vocals, some of them are really great. But the production just doesn't help. It's almost in the vein of Immortal's Blizzard Beasts.

Highly distinctive. there was not a single minute I didn't enjoy upon it, whilst onlooking at a glorious sunset. Serious contender potential now.

I can understand why this album is so much praised, it was innovative back then. Although I did not enjoy it that much. Some tracks drew my attention for a bit, such as: World Playground Deceit, Shifting Channels and Vortex.
