A pair of empty eyes, on a face absent of any trace of...life?

This is the image that comes to my mind as the first chord of Dunkelheit is picked, and persists, with different variations, throughout this jewel. An incomplete, and yet, mature and developed album, Filosofem must be the Count's deepest creation.

Most of its charm comes from the way it has been recorded. Black Metal has always been about atmosphere, and honestly, one can almost see the darkness while listening to Filosofem.

The universe, perfectly balanced as Thanos would want it. I immediately liked Thanos in Infinity War and it was the first time I had heard of him or seen him; can't wait for the End Game come April. I now no longer agree with Thanos that the universe should be perfectly balanced; excess and scarcity are what make life worth living. This album is the perfect balance between three excellent tracks and three mind-numbingly horrible tracks: the best album to be rated at exactly 5.0.

Lol so weird. I played Jesus Tod at work yesterday and was thinking how perfect the drums sound. Bands spend thousands of dollars in the studio to make their drums robotic and it sounds nowhere near as good as this.

And not one of those sheepish clones does one remember every single instruments’ 🎸 🥁 🎹 🎧 🎙 personality to a tee. Cooked to perfection.

First 3 songs are worth a 9.5/10 for me

Are those German translations in the lyrics written by Varg himself? If so, his art has just gained additional respect from me. It's super poetically written - way more elegant than the English lyrics! Although, there is an inconsistency:
Quote:

I wonder why life must be
a life that lasts eternally
-----
Ich frage mich, wieso muss das Leben
ein Leiden sein, das ewig währt

The German line translates to: "I wonder why life must be a suffering that lasts eternally". It does sound like he says "life", and I can't think of a synonym for "suffering" that sounds kind of like "life". But the German lyric makes far more sense in the context of the rest of the song, since at the beginning of the song he talks of "pain that lasts eternally".

I have come to the horrifying realisation that "Rundgang..." is my most listened Burzum song by far, I've been using it semi-frequently to fall asleep for maybe 5 years

I can see as it's mostly background music, if you listen closely you would fine very tedious if you concentrate on only listen to the song it's 25 mins of white noise actually, also the last song it's almost just water pouring jaja

I actually love the album in full, but it is easy to listen to the first three songs and shut this off if you're in a rush. When you have time to listen to this in full it's quite the experience, especially laying in bed with the lights off.
