It was not long ago that I discovered Sólstafir, who come from the cold plains of Iceland. When I first heard their name I thought they were a pure black/viking metal band, which, at least based on their latest two efforts, is terribly wrong. A great album, saw them first time in May last year, had just heard of the name but never listened to them. I think it's the first time I got mind blown by a band I didn't know one single song from! So good, so haunting, so emotional

I like to consider myself a manly man, yet everytime I listen to Kold I end up in tears...something that has never happened with ANY other metal band I've listened to. Been listening to metal for 12 years and would never classify it as beautiful, but Solstafir definitely defy expectations.. I'd love to see them live...

The album has some moments where it drags a lot, especially in World Void Of Souls.

Very weak album IMO, but at the same time it's interesting for the sake of hearing the development of the band's sound. So I must say I highly prefer the album before and the album following this.

For me, the band achieved with Kold the perfect balance between the old and new sound which possibly makes it overall their most solid release. I'd still have a hard time choose my favorite album, as all have their own level of awesomeness (except maybe Otta, clearly their weakest).
