If it's true that all AC/DC albums sound the same - which it isn't, anyone who thinks that Blow Up Your Video and Highway To Hell sound alike is probably tone deaf - then High Voltage, their 1976 international debut, must be what they all sound like. This is the record that set the standard for countless 'DC classics released in the last 35 years, as well as numerous (usually rubbish - Airbourne anyone?) copycat attempts. What this album proves is that no matter how many times they've copied their own formula over the years, when Angus Young and Co. got it right, they were undisputed masters of the hard rock art.

For a debut this is very good indeed. You could tell the band had their sights set on a very bright and successful future, particularly with the enthusiasm and energy in every one of the songs. I love the bagpipes interlude in the opening track, which is pretty decent on its own anyway. The title track and 'T.N.T.' are both full of good rocking riffs, and even the two 'Sexy' songs (I like to refer to them as such), 'The Jack' and 'Can I sit Next to you girl?'' have some significance on the album. It may not be their heaviest or indeed most instantly exciting album, but it certainly is one of their best 70's albums, alongside DDDDC and 'Highway to hell'.

As a debut I think this album succeeds very well; it's surprisingly full on great material. I think pretty much all of these songs are justifiable to have here and no other real fillers than She's Got Balls are present. After the years some songs have become favourites and some lost that status, most recently Rock 'N' Roll Singer, Live Wire and T.N.T. sound like standouts.

Well you can stick your nine to five livin'
And your collar and your tie
And stick your moral standards
'Cause it's all a dirty lie
You can stick your golden handshake
And you can stick your silly rules
And all the other shit
That they teach to kids in school

^ Agreed Bon, very much agreed.
