Power Metal is one of the main genres of Metal and has a huge fan-base and Power Metal refers to two different but related styles: the first pioneered and largely practiced in North America with a harder sound similar to speed metal and symphonic metal and also known as US Power Metal, and a later more widespread and popular style based in Europe (especially Germany, Italy, Scandinavia).
And here some of American Power Metal bands: Iced Earth, Kamelot, Symphony X, Manowar.
Some of European Power Metal bands: Children Of Boddom, Blind Guardian, Halloween, Nightwish.
For me American PM is closer to my heart than European, so what about you guys?

This is a tough one, as both types have unique things about them that I like. I like more bands that fall under the Euro power metal category, so I guess I'll go with that. Though funnily enough, one of the best exponents of the US style, is actually a European band. (Nightmare from France)

Bodom a power metal band?

Ahum, yes they are. Musically it's pure power metal.

Normally i side with Europe in most America vs. Europe debates, but in this case, when comparing Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica or Rhapsody with Iced Earth, Kamelot and Jag Panzer, I gotta say i go with America.

I dont really see it, they seem like more of a black metal band than a power metal band to me.

I'm sure there's a black metal band with the initials CoB.

There has to be.

Doesn't help you though.

In all fairness I've never heard of them, so they could still be some cheesy melodic extreme form of power metal that MA just labels black metal for ease of access.

It depends more on the bands than what genre they play.
